A weather "event" here in the south...

Yep, a nice Michigan beach day!...I seen a mosquito outside this morning while I was shoveling the driveway..He was wearing a hat...Maybe he blew in here from Minnesota? Time to drag out the Idiot Mittens and settle in for the Long Gray, or jump on I65 and make a Southbound run, and not stop for gas until I see a WaffleHouse!....

Well, if ya get this far , I've got a coupon for ya for a free waffle at the awful house.

Yea, I got nothing but rain here in Columbia SC,But I know what you mean about the Southern drivers in the snow. I come from Maine and a "dusting" can be from 3" to a foot! Down here they mention "flurry" and it's a mad dash to Wally World for all the milk, bread, and batteries they have! They must have a battery operated griddle, that is the only explanation I can come up with.

Gotta love snow.....so light, so quiet, so fluffy and pretty, no two alike.......... and then the damn things gotta gang up on you.:shock:

BOLO::For a pair of perps, headed south Description as follows-- spotted frog with his counterpart a hat wearing mosquito. This pair have been known to frequent Waffle House facilities. This pair can be coached out of hiding with a tall glass of something to drink.

I've spent some time up north during the Winter and did some driving there. Two big differences. #1) They're much more prepared for it. #2) Down here, we're usually right on the border of cold air so we tend to get a mixture of freezing rain, snow & sleet. When all is said and done, a lot of times we just end up with a layer of invisible ice on the roads which is one of the reasons we have so many accidents. I don't know about you, but I'd rather drive through a foot of white fluffy snow than on a 1/4" of black ice.

A few years ago one of my buddies from Ohio came for a visit and got caught in an ice storm coming back from Atlanta. He was stuck on the highway all night and most of the next day. Needless to say, he doesn't make fun of Southern winter storms anymore.

AGREED !!!!

While you still need to be careful, snow is better than ice !

Well, winter is here. Nothing you can do. Just be careful. Here in north Indiana, we only got just enough to cover a sheet of paper.
You still have to watch them southern drivers that never get snow or ice. It could be bad.. KEN :D

Is this the same system that is hitting new England right now? We are looking at 4-6" already have a good 3-4" down and not supposed to stop til early tomorrow...that definitely throws a wrench in a season  here's to 2018!

I grew up in MI and one year we had a bad ice storm, it was probably the early 90’s. I lived on a gravel road with some average sized hills for up there. The ice was so thick I put on my hockey skates and was skating down the road. I have no idea how fast I was going but I went down the big hill by my house and at that age I felt like I was going 300mph! Heck I had to go quite far and slow down before I was brave enough to hockey stop. I’ve always wondered how many people have ice skated up and down hills before. Lol

I always joke with the people here in IL. If people here see snow or ice while driving they say “oh $hit”. Up in MI we turn to our buddy and say “hold my beer and watch this $hit!”.:laughing:

I like WaffleHouses! I eat there all the time when I can! Although, back In '96 I was driving my Wife and young Daughter east on I20 from Birmingham to attend the ATL Olympics...We pulled off east of Anniston AL to a Waffle House...Just as we were walking up to the door, a Family of 4 was exiting the establishment...Parents with two small children, a girl and a boy...Well, the boy didnt make it two steps out of the WH door when he puked out a waffle right there in the parking lot!! Slapped the whole thing down there like a syrupy Welcome Mat!

The Wife gave me a WTH? look...I said, "Alright!" "This is a GOOD one!" FWIW, we made it to that first Rest Stop on the GA/AL line before pulling over...! Usually you dont make it that far, a mile or two tops...... Musta been the grits holding everything somewhat together...

Orignally from the UP myself. Would get ready for bed and 10 or 11, look outside, clear as a bell, see the stars and Northern lights, wake up at 6 am, look outside, still see the stars, still clear, try to figure out which antenna sticking out of the snow drift your car is under. Once found as soon as you're about finished shoveling it out the plow comes by and buries you right back in... Can't say I miss lake effect at all.

I don’t know man. Down here we get snow and it melts after a few days. It’s a constant back and forth between mud and snow all winter with the good old Windy City wind constantly. I miss the snow. Once it’s cold I would rather it stay that way and the snow stay. Much more stuff for the kids to do and I sure miss living on a snowmobile all winter.
