Starting a club

Man, I wish you guys where closer, I'd help and join in a heartbeat! In 30 some years of living in my area, I've seen a whopping grand total of (5) people detecting in my town over the years. If you guys weren't over an hour away i'd hop on board! I wish you guys the best of luck with your club!!!

I think there is a big distinction between a group of friends who meet to hunt, and an actual CLUB.

A club needs to have a goal of supporting the hobby, fellowship with like minds, education for newbies, etc. A club also needs to have at least a president who will be in charge of decisions about meetings, events, etc.. That doesn't mean it has to be a huge ordeal with dues, club letters, treasurer, committees, etc. but it needs someone who will have the final say on some things.

This is what I was thinking also. And I'm hoping that I can find enough people to fill those "positions" right from the beginning.

Hey guys...Following your thread here...just a suggestion...a guy might want to start out slow and add members added "by invitation only"? Just saying...plenty of crazies could come crawling out of the woodwork, or even just one could sink your whole experience....

This is a good point also. I have a few guys that I know have detected the last couple years. Whether they still are into it is unsure. Maybe I'll message them and ask of their interest. The thing about around here is I have not seen more than 1 detectorist out when I am out. Most people look at me like I am an oddball for doing what I'm doing. Oh well, I enjoy myself:lol:

I think the interest is there, its just finding them all. I may, once this gets going put up a sign at the local coin shop also. That may attract the right crowd. The more I've been thinking about it, the more I'd like to see it happen!

You would be more than welcome to join if we get this going. You know, an hour is not that far. Could be kind of fun even traveling your way sometime. Unless of course you don't want the outsiders invading your turf:lol: I plan on being at the hunt pastorbob has in Lincoln in May, hoping to get some ideas about their club also.

Hastings is closer too 2 hours from me. I work 7 days a week, but hey if you ever get over this way give me a holler i've got some places we could go. I'm hoping to be at the Lincoln hunt as well. I even have a hunt with bob scheduled for tomorrow. hoping to find some keepers.

Good luck on your hunt! And ask Bob for some helpful hints on starting a club for me:lol:

I don't belong to a club but I hunt with the same people a few times a year. We all work different hours every week so we can't have meetings, but getting together is always fun.

Any updates on the founding of the club Mottz? We need to get together for a hunt soon none the less!

I'm thinking this may happen. I want this to happen. I may get ahold of ya soon and maybe try shooting some ideas back and forth and see what we come up with.

I sent out a couple of pm's to some guys on fb, I posted in my coin forum page and on the "from Hastings" page on fb. So, one more thing I'd like to do is talk to the former club owners widow and see if she has any info or even things that could help me out. And come to find out, she lives right across the street from my work. Now to get a few more commits, toss some ideas around with silverspoon and this club may be up and running in the near future.

That was quick, just in the time I was typing this, 2 committed back to me. I think we're getting close to 8 or 9 now. Sounds like a good start.

Digdoug 5 is already starting to text me with name ideas. South Central Nebraska Pull Tab Retrieval Unit is the best he can come up with. Not really the route I want to take it but I'm having a hard time thinking something up:?: Guess it will end up being what a few of us agree on. I do like South Central Nebraska part of it.

sorry I just found this post, was waiting to hear about it in the nebraska forum, I am in, and willing to help. can the four or more of us on here decide on a day after easter weekend to meet up somewhere central to us,( hastings for example?) at a park or something, sit down at a picinic table and hash ideas around. my schedule is pretty open right now, and I am already working on a couple excellent locations for some group hunts, that have some great potential for sweet finds. other than that I think if we start small and then recruit our way into a "full" size club with a monthly meeting spot and eventually work towards club goals???

How does the weekend of April 2nd work for you guys? what day and times are you all available, and could we all meet at say the park on the south side of hastings at hwy 6 and burlington, across the road to the east of the micky D's?
if this don't work what days times and locations work for you? Does anybody need a ride? post up what works for you guys, we need a meet and greet! and maybe have a little swing time too:D

I should be able to make one of those days work. My coin collecting buddy, who wants to join works Saturdays, so if we make it on Sunday the 3rd then he could possibly be there. Either day works for me though. Silverspoon and I may get together this week and start flippin thoughts but lets see what he responds with here. Digdoug is in Kearney so its up to him. And if we get a time and place(that park works for me) I could let a couple other guys who were interested know. Thanks for the interest and push to get this going playin4!

April 2nd is no good for me. I have my high school alumni tournament where I attempt to play basketball that day. I could probably make the 3rd work. Lincoln park would be a good place to meet. I've hunted it a few times and found some keepers!

Lets plan on the 3rd then. If 1:00pm works for you guys then I'll message a couple others and see if they are available. Then maybe get some detector swing time in.

Man I have been ridiculously busy this week. Do you still want to meet before the 3rd? I can definitely make 1pm work!

Not a big deal. I understand the busy part of it. Even if it would've been nice enough to detect these last couple weekends, I wouldn't have been able to. We can shoot for next weekend. I'll message the guys probably Monday and see if they can make it.

I was the president of a local club for eight years and did the newsletter for ten (Before the Internet and computers). I told them when I was elected that it was going to be pretty informal and it seemed to work. Make friends with other clubs around the country for more ideas. Remember that a few people can't do all the work of finding places to hunt. I finally had to quit for other reasons and those who took over make a lot of new rules. The club doesn't exist any more. Keep it simple and remember that the whole idea is to enjoy each other's company and have fun. There used to be a large metal detecting hunt held in Hastings but I never had the chance to attend. Maybe you can find some of those who helped put it on.
