how do you carry your mini 18'' digger?

I have both the 18" and the 31" Sampson's. I rarely use the 31' because I find the 18" easier to carry. I made my own carrier and carry it with the handle down. The weight doesn't swing while you walk and the shovel isn't neat as noticeable to people watching you detect.

How it fits.

Most of the time my arm hides it from view.
I have never had a problem with being cut with it in this position. The higher center of gravity makes walking easier and less chances of falling.

Would you be interested in making and selling me one? Having the blade from view sounds good.

I got a Ready Shovel holster!! Very nice piece of gear well built. I have Kydex holsters for my pistols and the stuff is TOUGH!! Can't wait till the warmer weather gets here to try my new detector and the ready shovel holster and all my other new toys!!

I've yet to see a video of someone walking with a Ready Shovel and the 18" Lesche. I want to know how much the shovel swings and if it bumps into your leg.

I watched the Video on his site and he claims it doesn't swing that much?? Have to take it at face value at this point! Let you know in a couple months, still a frozen wasteland here!! I wanted a real holster but there as much or more than the digger!

It's simple to make. Bend a couple of brackets to fit your shovel and bolt them to a folded piece of leather that goes around your belt.

Look at Buzz Wilson's profile. He makes all sorts of things to carry your tools. And very well made too.....

Been watching this post since I just bought a Lesche 18" Sampson. After reading the replies I bought one of the Ready Shovel carriers. I watched the video and I can tell you right now that Dennis is not a professional actor LOL! BUT the product works good and it is made in the USA plus at $15 it is worth the risk to try it out,
Thanks to Jeff and Martin V3i for posting.

Well did u really like the ready shovel? I like how it can carry not only the 18'' mini but also the more larger shovels as well which I will be getting a larger shovel sometime this year for my field hunting. Maybe a 30" shovel something like that or 36".

I finally found a discussion a few weeks ago on a forum between two people who own the Ready Shovel. One wasn't a real fan, and the other said he was mixed on it for the same reason. It was what I was afraid of with it. It swings and hits your leg/pants as you walk.

Looks to me the better option is Buzz's sheath.

I must say the 18" samson is probly the best out there easy to carry I also have a hand lesche so I wanted to carry both I talked to buzz wilson who makes a realy great quality bomb sheath for hand trowel with a holder for ur propointer so I got 1 of those and he also makes a bigger bomb sheath for the 18" made to last just google bomb sheaths ull see his website makes them to order carries nice doesn't get in the way slips right threw ur belt and beleive me it will and can take a beaten
JUST google bomb sheaths or bomb sheath for 18" samson I have pics of the black ones but I use my phone for this Forum & got no idea how to load pics

Mine might hit the pants a little, but it isn't from the shovel swinging. The cradle holds handle surprisingly parallel and stable. I detect "slow and low" though so I a jack rabbit huntins style pace would possibly wave it round a little.

Another thing I do by habit is rest my free hand on the shovel and carrier. This gives me easy access if a hoodlum strolls by, stabilizes any slight swinging, and keeps my pants up ;-) Doe my pants leg get a little dirt? Yes, some times, on muddy days.

IMHO I feel that y'all are over stressing on a $15 carrier. The carrier functions great. I don't think I would try and carry a 36" or larger shovel. It is perfect for the 18". The one I have is a "must keep." martin

That Buzz Sheath would be a PITA for me. My Sampson shovel end gets easily caked up in my soil and I would be having to CONTINIOUSLY be scraping it off, since the sheath "is a sheath." I ain't jamming a dirty spade in it and constantly cleaning the spade end just ain't my style. m

yes have looked at bombs sheath but the price is a little to high for me only thing I do like about it is that the shealth hides the blade. The blade even on the mini 18" Sampson make private home owners and park workers nervous. And that's where I would use the mini MAYBE but rite now I only use the mini in fields and such even tho I can cut a plug with the mini better than my standard leashe. I just don't feel rite using the mini on home owners yards and public places like parks. But with the bomb shealth I could easily hide the blade part. Im prolly gonna go with both the bomb shealth and ready shovel. I would use both im sure. My plans in future is to get about 3 r 4 more shovels for different locations. Its nice to use shovels esp with the F75 SE cause its extremely deep and its always a pain when I gotta hunt using my standard leshe. Thanks.

My shovels and leashe also stays caked caked in dirt and mud while out most of time.... So u think the sheath wld be a bad idea for me? I gig super deep with my f75 se and hit muddy water a lot of times with my shovel and leashe....

Would love to see something for the Sampson 18" just like Buzz's in the above posted video but made of a heavy duty canvas or a nice camo finish. Mite be a littler cheaper than leather.

the buzz wilson sheaths are I mean I see no other optio like you said it hides the blade and the smaller one he makes holds the propointer on whatever angle you ask him you want I put both mine threw hell and there are no signs of any damage as of the canvas ya canvas are nice but I've ripped many of them and while it looks like the price is high on the bomb sheaths think of it this way your only gonna buy one over a long long time verse a couple of the canvas ones , the price of the canvas will ad up quickley, I also like that there pretty much locked in and your not gonna lose them, makes them look less destructive to outsiders, and last thing all of them are split at the ends where the tips of the shovels are so the dirt and the mud fall right out making cleaning very easy. Buzz is a good guy known him for a little while and he takes pride in these so you know ur getting quality work

This is how you carry one in the 'hood. I don't ever use sheaths anymore. Carry a lesche knife upside down in my hand. Less visible than being strapped to your side.
