Etrac vs Sov GT Wet Salt Beach

my thought's

i have a Etrac,F75se,for land, beach dry GT,wet and water Excals,df,and cz20,if you want one machine but dont intend to dive you can be one of those CTX3030 guy's,myself,i don't need a meter,or want to look at number's at the beach, there are plenty of other thing's to look at :shock::shock::shock::shock::razz: while your ear's are enough to do the job,and don't have to worry about your 1500.00 machine getting wet, cause down in the wet- sooner or later, that unexpected wave will get you, happy hunting Earl

This just MY personal opinion. I am a tone hunter and not a meter hunter. I would rather use my ears and scoop to ID a target before relying on a screen and a number of what to dig. Being a tone hunter, I can pickup most machines and my learning curve is very low. No meters to learn, no computer programs to learn. Don't get me wrong, meter machines can be fun, but for get the gold hunting, I prefer tones.

My Sov. GT has a custom 12.5 inch coil and goes deeper than any machine I own. If I am going to hunt dry or wet sand, I do not hesitate to grab the GT. I can go over heavily hunted areas and have plenty of good targets to dig beyond the depth of stock detectors. I own a couple of different coils for the GT and I am looking for an 8 inch now, making it a very veritably machine for different hunting conditions.

man, I am with you,,,tones all the way,,,escpecially with heavily hunted beaches, lots of trash and locating fresh drops,,,could care less about a gps, #'s and any other stuff, I just want to listen and go from there,,,GL HH

Right there with you Chuck... I'll be selling my T2 soon as a meter or TID is just a pain in the neck...

I have used both the Sovereign Elite and the Etrac for many years on the beaches. It would be tough to choose between those two...they both do a good job but are quite different detectors. For faster recovery in trash and more customizable options the edge would have to go to the Etrac (plus you can change coils easily), but to be honest the Etrac just doesn't seem to find the gold like the BBS machines do. On the Sov or Excal, gold rings in true and loud whereas it always sounds like !!!! on the Etrac. If you're a 'dig everything' guy anyway then I'd probably say the Etrac but if you're just out for the gold then I would go with the Sov. Depth wise I'd say they are pretty similar with a slight edge going (maybe) to the Sov. So if you want to rip around the cherry pick all the silver amongst the trash I'd get the Etrac. If it's just gold your after the Sov is better in my experience...though be prepared to dig a million pulltabs too. :D

I like this threasd,,,, hey with the soverign GT and the etrac which one would be better if you did beaches 1/2 the time and sometimes headed inland to look for dry silver, coins and relics? which one is the Best "do it all Machine"

was looking at the safari but I'm still looking for that beach machine,, would not hold myself to it but having something fully submergable is great, but like I said I might not even end up going under the surface.

so with this criteria, which one

the easiest to learn to use
wet salt sand maybe even coil in the water
relics,coins,clad, Home sites
the lightest unit if possible
a do it all....

It depends... its personal preference... I don't like machines with a screen... I feel they are a waste of time

The GT is a proven machine on the beach... it sniffs out gold sitting next to or under iron...

The guys i know who use the etrac say they stink at finding gold. And you can tell by their finds compared to the silver they dig up.

Tajune..... there is NO one machine going to do it all well. You dont need fancy on the beach. As far as light.... the Sov can be hip mounted. There are a lot of options for target review that a Sov doesnt have for park and relic use.

I dont know about that one itaring.... i use an Exp on the wet/dry sand a do pretty well. I dont like to use Ferr, but it can change, but i still believe the Sov may have an advantage there. But dirt digging ..... id grab a ET. As far as a safari.... its a watered down Exp, much like the M6 was to an MXT. Best protect any machine that isnt water proof on the beach. Ocean spray is a killer.

They haven't made that machine yet. I wish they would, but they haven't.
So far I have not found a light weight machine that works in salt conditions with any depth. The filters and circuitry for a detector to work in salt (a mineral) all adds weight to a detector.

Decide what kind of hunting you will do MOST, then purchase a detector that fits that need. As you will see in the signatures, many here own more than one detector....different tools for different jobs.

I think I've decided on a sov gt or cz 21. I have a f75 thats my dirt machine. If you see any deals on those shoot me a pm. Thanks

Having never used the Etrac all I can talk about is my experience with the BBS machines. The GT and Excal are both formidable machines on the beach. I have gone through a re-emergence on the Excal 2 with my new used machine. I had a 10" Excal 2 and sold it for several reasons. I used my GT for wet sand. I recently bought a used 8" Excal and it has been superb. Those machines dig deep and a screen just slows me down. Yes, you can block pennies or other conductive targets with the Etrac but there is a problem here. The conductivity of those targets change during time. Your display wastes time. Corroded pennies you will dig. They are low conductors like gold. Just dig the hole man and stop looking at that screen! I see videos where guys swing 10 times over a target looking at the display. With my GT or 8" I am digging before their 4th swing. Hit it and move on.

A deal..... well Kelleyco now has a NEW GT for a $100 less... $949. That means check with other dealers you might get a SWEET deal not having all those extras thrown in. 3 year warranty.

I had some good deals quoted on the gt's but got a new cz for less than that

The CZ will do you well. Now you won't have to "wish I could get in the water" All you need now is a good scoop and you can hunt it all.

A tip if I might, if you just bought a new CZ 21 change the knob set screw to brass, stainless steel or put silicone over them before getting in salwater. They are iron and WILL rust out.

Will do it. Should have some brass ones at work.

:cool:The Sov GT is probably the best fresh or salt water beach machine made. It doesn't know the sand is even there. The Iron mask means you won't be digging any iron nails or small iron. What is really great about using the Sov GT is you can find a coin or gold ring under a nail. Other detectors can disc out the nail and when a ring is under the nail, you won't hear it either with those other detectors. You have to try this to believe it. :research:
Happy hunting, we are waiting to show your finds:)

How deep will your GT go in the water? Mine, not so far.
