You can get animal feed scoops like this at suburban farm stores like Tractor Supply for about $5.
After a minute or two with a drill and a large bit it becomes a handy scoop for the beach. I have used the red one for about a year.
Works great in dry sand and damp sand. What i especially like is that since it is plastic you can wave your pinpointer under it to see it you captured the target.
