Here's how I make labels for all my displays. They always look pretty good. I buy thin strips of brass at the hardware or craft store. I also buy a set of "press type" letters. These are laid on the brass , rubbed on the opposite side and they transfer to the brass. Very easy to do.
When done and spiffed up I spray the whole brass strip with a clear fix. Then I either glue the strip to the display frame or drill holes in each end and screw them down.
