So I've been borrowing a buddy's beach scoop for a few weeks that he bought from RTG... I really like it, except For te 5/8" holes...TOO BIG.

I decided to build my own scoop, but I wanted 1/2" holes in the body of the scoop and just 3/8" holes on the bottom. I think this will really help in catching some of the smaller targets that have been eluding the RTG 5/8" scoop holes.

Today, I finished welding the scoop and I'm really happy with it. I added a stainless steel eyebolt at the backside of the handle so I can easily attach a wrist tether strap or whatever. I also made an "extender bar" that can slide into the helper handle when I'm in deeper water so I can reach he helper handle without dunking my head under water.

Now, the only things left to do are to paint the scoop and then rivet my stainless steel tip into place.

Here's some pics...

Wtg...great job...

When I built mine I used brass angles and 10/32 nuts and bolts.

Very nice job. My best scoops are homemade or modified to my needs.

One thing you may want to consider is welding a kicker on the back. A flat back can be tough digging. After I welded one on my first scoop I liked it so much I can home and made kickers for all my scoops.

THANKS EVERYONE!

I just finished painting the scoop today...The contrast between GOLD and WHITE is so much nicer than plain old aluminum! heck...even Silver and Copper looks better on white!
