I found 2 1944 wheat pennys this week and they had a different look. The first had a green and black coating but the second had the normal wheat penny color but a slight almost powder looking coating of oxidation or rust. Even though I have found a steel penny before and it looked very different I thought for a while maybe they can look different depending on what type of soil they have been in. But a refrigerator magnet didnt stick to it either so I guess the rusty colored powdery spots arent rust at all The color just isnt right for steel anyway so that was my first clue. But considering the value of a '44 steel it sure gave me a rush
