Well thought since my winter is here, since i cant detect, i will post my lapidary works. Not sure if i will run out of material this winter or not (always looking for material should anyone have stuff).

First pic is the first one i have ever made... so far each one is taking between 30min to 1 hour to make... I will drill holes in them and put chords through at a later date

First one is Montana Agate, 2nd i'm calling jasper (from here in cold Alaska).

Everything i make when i feel like wearing it will eventually get a hole in it.

If someone really wants something i make that they see it is possible i can part with it if i have more of the material (only the 2nd photo currently i have 1 more piece i can make with which i might do next)

I'll post more pics as things come out... be it tumbled stuff, or slabs (polished or not). If you want to see my rough "cant pull myself together to cut" material see my website as i will not be posting that here.

Well I decided to put off cabbing for a little while as I need to cut some material.

Here are a few photos of slabs I will make cabs out of some day.

Also a few tumbled rocks to enjoy.

I have been cutting so i have only slabs to show now.. but still cool.

If anyone wants slabs of stuff I will probably have a lot that i will be putting in my slabs to sell box (I can polish the faces also but that costs a bit more)

Enjoy!

All Alaskan material

This is what the machine i polish and grind with looks like. I hope to make and sell enough stuff next year to pay it recoop the costs.

That's some really nice work Glenn! I've gotta say you've got patience, not to mention an eye for making the right cut in those stones!
Thanks for posting!

Pete

I hand polished this piece of Alaskan Amber I found last year. It is not the best polish but good enough for me. I'm going to look for more tomorrow night... I hope to find a larger one.

(the clack is leafy or grassy material)

I now have a piece of amber that is mind blowing large for the area.

Why do I get the feeling that you might find the next big diamond mine out that way? ;)
And a question for you: I know you cut/slice, polish and tumble a lot of stone, but have you ever "turned" any stone on a lathe? I'm thinking in terms of candle holders or ashtrays or similar round items. Just curious.

I thought I already answered this.. guess I pressed a wrong button.

I would like to find something new... that would be fun.

I have not done anything with a stone lathe... if I had the chance I would, but I wouldn't know where to even look for one to use (is there even one in my state?)

I probably would not buy a stone lathe for many years if I had a market... reason being is i'm guessing it would cost a lot of money.

a new 16 inch rock saw costs $5000 not including shipping (I have two 16 inch rock saws that I fixed made in the 60s)
