Though it was thimble at first but not

Found this on a recent hunt with my AT Pro, the pro IDed it as dime or copper penny. When I dug it at first thought it was a crushed thimble but obviously it is not a thimble. Any help with ID is appreciated.

Total guess: wick holder for a lamp or heater type contraption.

I remember a thread on this same thing in the past year or two. I can't remember but I think it ended up being a bag seal for some type of mesh bag.

Or maybe that was another thread:(
 
I have found many of these over the years, not a clue to what they are. I would love to know though. Seems like i find alot of them at sites from the 30s to 50s.
 
I'm telling ya, it's some kind of crimp for an onion bag or some kind of grocery bag. I can't put my finger on it! But that's what it is. It's killing me that I can' remember the thread!
 
I have the deluxe model sitting right here on my kitchen island from a few weeks ago ( I can do that, Im single)
