My brother just came over and showed me this 1944 wheat with no mint mark and what looks like the L error. The L seems to be missing completely. What do you think? Picture is fuzzy. He got it in change at Walmart.
I have quite a few of them. Can't tell you value, but not much, I don't think! I have quite a few of them. Can't tell you value, but not much, I don't think! At least, last time I checked. From what I see the value is prety high unless I'm missing something.
HUM? I must be doing something wrong. Do a Google for 1944 L error penny and see what you get.Total mintage of 1.4 billion that year, so not worth much at all. There are quite a few bogus listings on eBay where they sold for hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but all the sellers have low or zero feedback. An honest coin dealer would never try to pawn this coin off as an error. It's not an error, just a Philadelphia minted coin, so no mint mark was ever on any of them.
LOL. I guess you can't trust anything you see on Google.Google is paid to put eBay and other sellers search results first. That's why you see the bogus search results first. One of the most annoying aspect of Google. Here's a legitmate link to a coin collecting forum:

Looks like they find a lot of suckers. There is still a lot sold with a buy it now option. The trouble they would have gone through to fake the value of an ordinary wheat is amazing.Sold doesn't mean they were ever paid for by the buyer. That's why I only sell items with the "buy it now" feature and immediate payment required. Got tired of all the non-paying bidders on eBay.
Maybe value has gone up since I last checked! When I started collecting coins in 72, I came across quite a few and tucked them away.
I know the 1944 is common, but the L on the rim is common as well?Just took one to a coin dealer in Traverse City Michigan. If I had four of them I would be able to buy a cup of coffee. He said it is common and at the most worth $.50.
Yeah apparently it is. I have one as well. and thought it was gonna be a cool error coin. If it's not an error, what denotes an error coin???? In my feeble mind it's not a normal coin.but the L on the rim is common as well?
WOW, I was never aware that there was a common error in coin mintage. Learn something new every day.Yeah apparently it is. I have one as well. and thought it was gonna be a cool error coin. If it's not an error, what denotes an error coin???? In my feeble mind it's not a normal coin.
4X $.50 = maybe a small coffee around here. That is unless you are one of those guys who gets "special" mixingsJust took one to a coin dealer in Traverse City Michigan. If I had four of them I would be able to buy a cup of coffee. He said it is common and at the most worth $.50.
