Yet another silly season of "The Curse of Oak Island" coming up!

Does anyone remember Geraldo's "Capone's Vault" back in the 80s? Sat through that show only to be dupped at the end...still it was memorable and entertaining. So I get Oak Island...:foottap::waiting:🤣

Yeah , that was great. Gotta love Geraldo. All this hype & hoopla and in the end it was sand , dirt , glass and a few booze bottles. Disappointed and excited all at the same time.

Really ? Then a bunch of md'rs on this forum have found fabulous treasures that rival Oak Island then. RIGHT ?
Actually doesn't the clad most MD'ers find dwarf the treasures found at Oak Island? Going by that rational if
the OA guys are considered successful treasure hunters then with my $3.67 in odd clad and one gold ring found
in the last 6 months makes me a legendary treasure hunter... And some of you out there would be bordering on
divine level as treasure hunters!

Sure. And to be *totally fair* to the O.I. proponents : They would probably say that the button or square nail or singular reale or whatever found there on O.I. is not, in-&-of-itself, a "fabulous treasure". They would say that the button, or nail, or coin was merely proof of the nearby treasure. Eg.: They're "tips of icebergs". To show the habitation, the intent, the justification for the bigger picture story, etc....

So, Ok, let's just grant them this ^ ^ And thus it's not fair for us to be mocking them for the nail or button or whatever. Eh ?

But this merely opens up another problem: Because if those items were proof of nearby fabulous treasure, then shucks : All the guys on this forum (who have shown off buttons, nails, reales, etc...) were RIGHT ON THE VERGE of a fabulous treasure. Right ?

And then with a bit of imagination spun to your part of the USA, you can spin it with all sort of explorer motives, historical movements, camp fire legends, etc....

the more and more I think about it, O.I. is a metaphor for one or two of my hunting spots where I thought no one else had found, old dirt, old structures.....visions of me being the subject of a mega gold discovery news story like that dude in Kentucky finding confederate gold....then reality sets in as I walk away after 7 hours...shoulders hunched, stinky and dirty with a bucket of rust dragging behind me, clutching a Wheatle and perhaps a rosey dime saying, "next time its gonna pay off". Come on ya'll, sure a few of you out there have your O.I. experiences? Still love it though!!!! I'm addicted to the dream and the hunt like those OI dudes on TV.

Sure. Good post & good point to "put kill-joys in their proper place", eh ?

But here's the deal : The scenario you describe (eg.: being optimistic, dreaming, etc....) is not the same as O.I. (and the others of the same ilk). Here's why : Notice in the picture you painted, the md'r is accepting the outcome. And is hoping for "next time". But notice in the case of O.I.: The faithful are NEVER COMING TO THAT POINT !

So the comparison isn't actually there. At SOME POINT in a TH'rs optimism , reality HAS to sink in.

plus...the OI gang is getting paid tv-sponsored moola to keep doing the same thing over and over again. I get it...I get it...but still, like to believe that somewhere in someone's mind still lingers with the OI fiasco...what if there reeeeeeeaaallly IS something down there and walked away. Ok....Bring in a bigger backhoe, nuclear powered water pump so long as the sponsors pay, and viewership is up....and the money continues to flow in they'll continue. I guess in that sense, they've already struck gold. :woohoo:

Really... Its all BS to get people to tune in... that picture they showed was them comparing gold foil wrapped chocolate coins they got when they went trick or treating....
It’s interesting tho

While Gary and Rick uncover unprecedented finds in the swamp

That was the blurb for the latest episode. So what were the unprecedented finds they unearthed? A rusty nail that fell out of "The Ark of the Covenant" or maybe a coconut husk that Captain Kidd used as TP? Can't wait to hear this one!

What ? Are you trying to say that those aren't indicators of "fabulous treasure" ??  SAY IT ISN'T SO !

I mean, shucks : What ELSE can that rusty nail mean ?? What ELSE can that coconut fiber mean ? I mean, shucks : Wouldn't YOU (when you had the fabulous treasure) TOO use coconut fiber to wipe, if you didn't have TP to wipe with ?? So how can you fault Captain Kidd ?

Here's the writup for the premiere episode of Season 11 (unreal that it's still around)! What a joke!

As Rick and Marty Lagina and their team relaunch their quest to solve the Oak Island mystery, they make a number of the most historic discoveries ever unearthed in North America.

What historic finds? Rusty nails? Pieces of rotted wood? A gold gilt button? How can people still keep watching this baloney?
People will watch anything......if they didn't, those stupid "Bachelorette', "Naked and Afraid", "Real Housewives" and "Hauntings" type shows would have gone off the air a long time ago.

You can't disprove that Leprechauns are real just because you've never seen one. Therefore, you can't disprove the Oak Island Treasure isn't real just because the Laginas haven't found it yet. Maybe "metal detecting EXPERT" Gary Drayton made believe he was asleep, got out of bed, and then, while the others slept, he quietly snuck out with his detector, found the treasure, dug it up, and hid it on a different island.

That is just what happened and he buried at Dent's run!:laughing:
