What hobbies of yours did metal detecting take over?

Def fishing. Although we picked up a used boat last fall so I hope to hit the salt a lot this year.

I guess none. Diving was a passion and I just added detecting and diving. I don't dive the river here much because of the current and haven't needed to get a dollar a sinker any more since I find the gold. I kind of miss the river and am thinking of hitting it this year.

I used to love to fish like everyone else but my wife dying cured me of wanting to kill anything.

Detecting has slowed me down so I don't hunt for bottles as much as I used to unless I stumble upon them.

I reload my own ammo and used to shoot competition. Went from shooting over 5k rounds a year to less than 1k. I reload less and MD more.

Wow, a ton of fisherman!!

I think it's natural, we share many commonalities.

There are very few "big ones" out there, and we like to brag when we find one.
Both involve scouting new spots and return trips to old favorites.
When we find a spot filled with keepers, we like to keep the location secret
It's fine to do either alone or with a friend.
Both can involve a LOT of time without any reward, but the reward is always worth the wait.
Both are better than any day working!

Use that boat to hit beaches unaccessible by guys that have to drive

That's exactly the plan. The woman already knows that she'll be dropping me off on misc islands throughout the spring/summer. Just as long as she comes back for me. haha

Good god....us poor souls up in liberal-retardville, CT can't even buy a couple boxes of .22 rimfire without a full body cavity search and you're burning through rounds by the thousands! hahaha.

Guns and Shooting is another hobby of mine, but I am not giving that one up.

I get to pick this one up tomorrow after a long 10 day wait... :D

Yep, AK with no buttstock, shortened gas system, and 10" barrel. Registered as a pistol. Shoots the traditional 7.62x39 round. :D

Yup that thing is SICK..That would be a big mistake if some tweeker broke iinto your house in the middle of the night....:gunbandanna::shock::laughing:

I would go blind and deaf trying to shoot it indoors... Huge muzzle flash, and super loud.

Played a lot of golf but no fun playing by myself. Detecting is a hobby that
I like doing with others but going out alone is fine too.

Hunting and fishing. It was about time I found something better.

Even though I'll never starve I really am not very good at either one no matter how much work I put into them. No wall of 12 points bucks here, the odd big walleye or steelhead but not consistently.

I'm good at treasure hunting! I find freaking Gold, Platinum and Silver! :D Lots of it! :D

Ha! Amazing how many ex-fisherman there are... I'm another one. Still get out a few times a year for bass & pike, and every time I do, I wonder why I don't do it more often! But if I have a free afternoon now, it's gonna be spent detecting.

ever since i was growing up Hunting and fishing was all i wanted to do but ever since i started detecting haven't done either since .heck now i can wake up at night seeing silver & gold.so i see no problem with metal detecting :?:
