What do you use to dig up your finds?

Unless there's a NEEDLE in the hole!:fear:

I always use gloves & a digger until I know what the target is...

I always wear gloves. I just don't have a gloved hand emoticon. I've dug plenty of fish hooks and broken glass. But it still easier to loosen the soil and pull it out by hand. (Gloves or not)

chipper01work;2032034 Can't say enough good about the stainless Hori Hori. I'd still buy it if it was $100 and a Lesche was half that.[/QUOTE said:
While not stainless, my Hori-Hori knife is about as close to my 30+ year old 3in1 knife as I've found. I've wore it down by sharpening it over the years but never have broke it or even felt like it might. I bought two a while back at Wal Mart online for $14 each. I don't know if they are still at that price. I had a Lesche, didn't like it, lost it and never wanted another. I've even pounded my knife into rock hard clay that my pick bounced off of. Try that with a Lesche.

I'm going to buy a hori hori and break it so I can be the first to ever accomplish such a feat.

One thing that will help keep the size of your holes small is not a digger, but a pin pointer. Learn to use it well, and it will make a big difference.

+1 on the Lesche!

sorry to say it, but i broke one last summer.
i was prying between a couple small golfball sized rocks and it just snapped right in the middle! it was only a month old, barely a scratch on it and i brought it back to the store and they replaced it, absolutelyNO questions asked! they didn't even want to see a receipt!
the guy took one look at the metal and decided the same as i did, a very small flaw in the metal, just enough to weaken the blade.
i have pics somewhere, will post when i can find them.
btw, they've never heard of one breaking before either.... and they sell a TON of them!

Pete

Can't say enough good about the Hori Hori. My second one just came today. Stainless with the hard poly handle. Both are identical and I've been buying them on the bay for $33 delivered. The premium maker Nisaku also makes this baby called the Misukatana (water knife) that's really tempting me. I can get it for $38 shipped.
