What am I searching for?

Getting close, but still.......... No. Only one coin made by the U.S. mint will come in near the same VDI as those pulltabs.

$2.50 (quarter eagle) gold coin

Edit- nevermind I saw you anwswered the question. You have to open you range up a little to look for a target, say CO 20-24 to better your chances. Local conditions, solar flares, coin depth, etc. all work to cause targets to respond a little higher or lower than their airtest numbers.

US flying Eagle cent 12 - 20-24
US CU/NI indian head cent 12 - 22-23
US gold 2.5 dollar 12 - 22

As Ryan pointed out three coins minted come in the pulltab range and as he figured out, the flying eagle cent is the coin I'm searching for. I'll take the others for sure and whatever rings happen to come with it. :D

If you guys haven't done it already, hold your mouse cursor over his picture. It tells you the answer. So funny!!!

This isn't a contest, at least not for you guys. Can any of you guess by the picture what it is that I am searching for? Jewelry, coins, what?

Dave, with all those pull tabs I am surprised you didn't dig up a ring or two! Also, you must have walked a lot because if I remember right, the signals on that park are spread out wide.

Good luck finding the FE cent!

They made nickels out of silver? I just found of those('64) ther other day, and I think I put in a parking meter.

Also Nickels are 75% copper. It is interesting that they come up so low. Some old nickels I find seem to have the microscopic copper parts of and near the surface corroded away. My second war nickel was like that.

I was thinking one's best chances of finding a gold ring would be at VDIs 12-05 to 12-12. Most gold rings are women's, most women wear a diamond ring similar to a Tiffany style and those come up 12-08 give or take a little, and that gets you under a little away from the pull rings and twist caps, but you still have beaver tails at 12-08 and smaller pullrings at 12-12

If you are like me, you are looking for any thing you can get! So that is my official and FINAL answer! Well, can I ask the audience first?

I took off right after work for my thirty minute drive in hopes of continuing my grid. When I arrived I was surprised to see that the local school football team was in action on the field and cars were parked everywhere as were kids and parents.

The park was packed, my spot was overrun with future ball players. I had to make a choice with only about 45 minutes of light to hunt with. Start to grid a new area or go and watch the game. :?:

I decided to start in a new spot this time. The weather here is spectacular, no wind, a coolness to the air, no jackets required, perfect! I may not have found my prize this time, but I got out and enjoyed the time that I had, in search of the elusive flying eagle cent.

After all is said and done, we do this for the sheer enjoyment of being outside and seeing what the next signal will bring.
Better luck next time!

I would of had a hard time getting out of the pickup with that many people around. I have been swinging for a week now and still find myself avoiding too many people.
Good Luck on the Hunt!
