Detected a new beach today after the end of the summer season and had a great time. I grew up going to this beach on vacation every year with my family but this is the first time I ever took a metal detector there. I had such a great time I never checked my phone (5 hours later )to see what time it was and ended up having to ask my future Father-in-law to pick up my Son from daycare. The good thing is he lives less than 5 mins away from the daycare and my girlfriend is working from their home so it wasn't a big deal that I messed up.
For the detecting this is the first time I seen 5 other detectorists on the same beach which one of them was a woman. Spoke to two of them and they were very nice and we shared our finds. I worked the wet sand and waist deep in the water, finding most of my finds on the wet sand. Some were quite deep too at 8 to 12 inches. I gave up on two deep digs as it looked like I was digging a hole to China.
Here is a pic of my finds including a Romania dollar I found floating in the water. The big 8 gram star sapphire is clearly marked sterling with a Clark & Coombs hallmark. The earring with the big stone I found waist deep and is marked 925 SFI which I read means silver plated. The two small rings are junk. I found $2.51 in change, the second highest amount for me in one day. I had to call it a day when my arm could not take anymore swinging.
