Weight Loss Challenge

5lbs isn't bad.

Really, I ate worse then i have all year and still lost almost 5 lbs. I got sick for a few days and reverted to those comfort foods we have that aren't good for you. Anyway, it is going to be a lot harder for me to lose a high a %. I already lost 18 lbs of the easy weight and have been bouncing between 271 and 265 for the past 3 weeks. Today I busted through that door and hit 262.4 on the scale. Hope I can keep it off for next weeks weigh-in. Good job with week 1 everyone can wait to see where everyone stands.

After seeing where some of us are starting at, I feel more comfortable about broadcasting my weight in the forum. I was scared I'd be so much heavier than the 2nd heavist person... Instead although it looks like I'm still in the top 5... that's something I can deal with.

I've really struggled with my weight for the last 20 years. I played football in college and they had us on a 12k-14k calorie a day diet. When my playing days were over I cut back on my caloric intake but that didn't do a helluva lot of good because I was still gobbling 5k calories a day.

I had never visited the contest forum here until the day I joined the competition. That day though I had one of those moments where I thought to myself "I've got to lose some weight". It was the first day this year that we began practicing coming out of the blocks. I was trying to demonstrate it to the kids and for the life of me although I could almost get set in the blocks, I couldn't get my hands behind the starting line... My belly just kept getting in the way.

My starting weight was 287.4
My goal weight for this contest is 250
I would be ecstatic to see 240 by May.
My super secret no one knows about goal is 225 by the begining of football season. I'd love to run scout team plays with the kids.

The number assigned to me was 9531
I'm weighing on Tuesdays after track practice but before dinner.
This week I weighed in at 279.4
(I'm wondering if the digital scale only measures with a .4 ending)

Great job springcypress! Keep it going and youll meet your secret goal.

Still waiting on the last three people to weigh in. If you do not get me your weigh ins by the time I post the weekly results tomorrow morning, I will be using your last recorded weigh in weight for a gain/loss of 0.00%

Thanks vexhold for management of this. I am sure it takes time. Thanks for you encouragement as well as others. Great Idea.!!! Look forward to the results. Thanks again. Its motivated me!

I was walking or jogging every day do sit ups, push ups, and pull ups and limited the amount of food i ate and stopped snack through out the day. My body is paying for doing so well though because im so sore from everything

Congrats to everyone who made it through the first weigh-in.

1 down 11 more weeks to go. It will be over before you know it.
We can do it !!!!!!!Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize.

Barely cracked the top 5 hehe

looks like I'll have to gear it up!

congrats everyone!

Boy am I at the bottom of the line. Lost a bit, but really not sure what I can do to lose more. No $ for the gym, no equipment at home. I really wish I was working and get rid of some of this weight. I can lose like 5 lbs in a day in the summer. Yep I'm a sweater!

Up and down steps = a stepper
2 one gallon water jugs = kettlebells
Push and pull ups are great overall.

best way to lose weight is to walk a lot and cut out fatty foods.

it's also hard =(

Yeah I've tried to restrict my eating. Like was doing breakfast then eating a good dinner. No lunch except maybe something light.
Trying to get active as much as I can. And trust me it stinks being not working. I had a very active job and they laid me off. Almost in like a funk. Hopefully some cash work comes around soon. It has been a mild winter.

I probably shouldn't do this, but I'm going to share the best dieting advice I was ever given. And it's not really all that much about dieting.

Many people are unable to tell the difference between hunger and thirst. Both feelings are controlled by the same part of the brain (hypothalamus). When brain scans are done of people who say they are hungry and then compared to scans of people who say there are thirsty there is virtually no difference between the scans.

Take that thought and combine it with the Rule of Threes: 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food and then you die.

As a society (I'm talking about most Americans here) we are bombarded with food. We are habitual overeaters. Even many of our poor are overfed.

As a nation we also modify our liquid intake more than any other 1st world country. We don't drink much water... we drink everything but water.

In general, we're not hungry. We're thirsty. Many times though our solution is to eat more because we can't tell the difference.

So here's the big piece of advice: When you think you're hungry drink 8oz of water (I'm drinking a liter) and then wait 15 minutes. If you're still hungry after 15 minutes then you should eat because you're actually hungry. If you're not hungry after 15 minutes then you never were hungry to begin with. You were thirsty.

The added side benefit to this is that staying well hydrated (to partially overhydrated) helps speed your metabolism up. It's also fairly easy to lose water weight quickly (before a weigh in perhaps). Just add more diuretics to your food intake.

Very Good Advice Sir!

I am also already doing that, lost a few pounds already ... count me in

Sorry, we started a week ago and there was a deadline to enter. :(

I'm not a part of this contest but I think it's great what you all are doing. I mean no disrespect to anyone in this contest or forum for that matter, but the the simple fact is as Americans, we are an overwieght society. We're the only ones who can change that. So, I'd like to add this little piece of advice (I didnt read the whole thread so if this has been said already I apologize), watch The Biggest Loser if you dont already. It is a true eye operner and an added benefit, you get some great tips for both working out and eating properly. My wife and I have wathced this show since the very beginning ang it is truely inspiring and not just for overwieght folks. It's great to remind people that are trying to stop any bad habits that anything is possible.

I'm really looking forward to watching this through to the end and seeing how you all do. Wishing you all the best of lck in you're journeys.

Makes sense that people don't actually know when they are hungry or thirsty. I'd figure your hungry when your stomach is growling. And we all just eat our 3 meals a day because it is a scheduled thing. We may not really be hungry, it is just routine. I know rarely am I hungry to the point where my stomach is making noise. That's probably true hunger I'd imagine?
