Vibra-Tector 730 for shallow water snorkeling/hunting

I dont know I'm pretty happy with my Excalibur hooked up to dive, small and it doesnt weigh anything under water. When I took my EX to Florida I had no problems with the airport. If your just going to float around in 3" of water why not? Lets us know how you do..

I bought a Vibra-Tector 730 this summer thinking it would be an excellent underwater pinpointer for my White's PI Diver= There is too much interference between the two if there closer then about 15' away from one another.

The light shows up real good underwater and the vibration is easily felt. I don't really like the turn off/on feature as a couple of times i found out that i was off when i wanted it on. As long as you keep the coil flat and don't lift it up in the air you don't have to worry about it shutting off on you. You do know when it is on as the light on the coil stays lit all the time and flashes when you go over a target. I was diving in about 15' of water with it.

Pinpointing is a whiz with it and on 1 occasion i had a hole too deep in the muck that i lost the signal with my PI the day i tryed out the 730 that it helped get the target quicker as the small coil went into the handhole to let me know that the target fell in/Otherwise it was more digging with my hand.

In muck bottom water i grab a small hand full at a time and wave that in front of the PI's coil and do the elimination of finding the target that way. With the bigger coil on the PI i find that if i tip the coil on its edge and wave that over the target area it saves some pinpointing time.

The depth like they say is about 3" on a penny or wedding band. If your hunting a freshwater lake or pond you could get the fresh drops that way/otherwise get a good water detector and go at it that way.

I plan on trying it out some more this comming summer in sandy area's.

Hi there ,
I got one 3 weeks ago and its great, a bit funny at first not having any sound bout once in the Water you can hear it vibrate too , works to about 4 inches maybe 5 or a large target like a knife or lead weight, been in the sea twice ince at 3 m and then to 7 hasn't leaked yet, more that I can say for the detector pro I bought , so far I have dug up about 10 coins and 2 lead weights , a dive knife form the 60's and it has the corrosion to prove it. all in all its a great detector for messing about if you want to do a proper search pattern and cover a larger area then its not for you, but till I have a spare 2000 it will do me fine

all the best form Ireland

I copied the above form another tread
I have the Detector pro Pi and its not suitable for diving the ear cups cracked and it leaked on the first dive ,I had to send it back to the USA for repair and the cases have cracked again, its a great detector on land but not for getting wet. a real pity because the detection is superb, but as for water proof its not.

I don't know i have the vibrapro 570 and it cuts my on land diggin time by 70% event thought my detector has pinpoint the vibraprobe 570 rocks and i would say on land can go down 5 inches somtimes. I am looking at getting the Vibra-tector 730 to snorkel on in the water near shore but I might test my 570 in the water first before I decide to buy as I can cover more area with the 730. Good luck let me know what you find and your input.
Thanks
Kelly

Vibra-Tech

I have been thinking about getting one because they are small and I can conceal it. There is a place on the other side of the Petersburg Battlefield that I go to to hunt bottles. It is just off the park property and one day I was looking around a large tree and found a eagle hat pin under a root digging with my knife. I thought how great it would be to get a metal detector over there but just wouldn't think the park rangers would appreciate it to much me walking across the battlefield with my detector.... I could put this thing in the side pocket of my cammies and get there with it.

That sounds like a really bad idea. Sneaking a detector in like that could get you arrested if metal detecting is not permitted. It's akin to sneaking into an off-limits place at night so as not to be seen. Check with the park rangers first. They may give you permission.

Sneaky sneaky, you're looking for trouble. Then if you get found out it ruins all of our reps. :(

I'd say if your intent is to break the rules I'd stay away from metal detecting all together.

If you want a very effective water machine that can be broken down into a short package, check Tesoro's Sand Shark. It's a PI (no discrimination) that is stable and deep in salt water. You can leave the center section off the shaft and have a super deep machine with a full size coil that's only as long as your forearm. Perfect for snorkling. It's also lighter that most water machines, has a factory lifetime warranty, and is one of the few that has waterproof connections that allow the owner to change coils. I love mine so much I sold my Excal because it sat in the closet.

Vibra-Tector

Hi,

I'm thinking of going on vacation, but can't take a large conspicious metal detector with me. I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the beach and snorkeling in shallow water in touristy areas.

I'm wondering if it's worth buying a cheap Vibra-Tector 730, even though only has a 4" coil and a 3" depth?

Does anyone have experience using on a Vibra-Tector 730 and nothing else?

I have a lot of time to kill on the beach.

What do you think? Is it worth hunting using something so small? Will I even pick up anything?

J

Hi surreysale,

I also had my interest raised by it. Not that expensive. There are no reviews to be found but a forum on scuba diving has some discussion about it being used underwater. They are saying 4 to 5 inches can be expected while diving. It is well liked by those divers using it.

You'll need to read several of the posts though. Might even find out some other informational bits.

Just a thought. Steven sent me the dive kit with the White's Surf PI DF I bought from him. This allows you to shorten the unit for snokling or suba diving. Just something to consider.

Break down

The Fisher Cz21 8 inch coil for 1025.00 would be good for you,the hard case for it is like a small suit case,5 year warrenty,VLF,has the longest warrenty of all water machines Earl

silysavg...why are you responding to a post close to 2 years old:?:

Resurrection;).

I would like to get some information about this product. This Vibra Tector 730 has been around a long time ( since 2005 or 06 or so ) and there is practically nothing written about it on the internet. I think that is a bit strange. Usually if something is useful or not there is someone letting others know of it.

Surely by now there must be someone somewhere that can shed a bit of light about it. I thought it looked pretty neat. I was actually considering getting one.

Vibra-Tector 730

I bought 2 of these and at first i was extremely excited about them to go diving with a friend. I constantly dive at the beach and find jewelry so i thought this will be a great helper. But! For some reason it won’t detect gold. I did several test runs and it sees silver but not gold. For 3 days I’ve been diving close to the beach testing it and all it finds is meal beer caps. No gold. I was surprised that I couldn't find anything but the caps. I took a few gold items with me and decided to give it a test run. And it didn't respond to gold at all, even lying flat on top of the gold pieces. Right now I’m reading reviews before I buy my next detector. But I’m looking for something that is built like this one. The size and shape are excellent for my purposes and I love the vibration feature which I think is much better than the bulky headphones.

I had a DetectorPro Wader and it was an excellent machine, especially if you have to put it in a small suitcase. The only reason why I sold it was to get an Excal with a big coil. DetectorPro makes a very good product and they stand behind their machines, if you have a problem they will take care of it right away. If you are snorkling, you would not be able to go that deep on one breath of air to begin with, so the depth limitations would fit right in. If you can dive deeper then look at the DetectorPro Diver, that is rated to 200 feet. The convience of the controls that are set in the headphones is an advantage especially when diving. DetectorPro makes superior quality headphones.

I just ordered the Vibra-tech 730 also, and a pair of water proof headphones for my Garrett AT Pro. I figure the 730 will be great for just snorkeling around close to shore, will even work as a great pin pointer for the AT Pro in water so I think I should be all set! I just hope they get here by July 3rd, as promised by Amazon.

Can't wait! Being in Oregon, the hot weather could go away by the time they get here and it will be too cold again to go in the water!

Edit: I just noticed in previous post that the vibratech 730 wont see gold!? That isn't good! I'll try it out on that right out of the box and if it wont then I may just return it. I was under the impression from another post I read on another topic and thought the guy found gold rings. Will see.

Edit to update: I received mine in the mail and the one I have detects all the gold I've put under it just fine. Used 14k samples.
