Two Permissions Done, a Little More Success with Shine

Trapper, once again, you manage to find some good quality finds. And your write-up adds to the climax of seeing what you have have found this time around. Those Seated dimes sure don't come often but when they do, it always a special treat to find and for me to read about. Congrats on another fine hunt and look forward to what your sweet #16 fty will be! John
Very kind words John, thank you. Your right the Seated's are special and fairly rare. Except for my first year in this hobby I have been blessed to get my coil over at least one every year since. This one almost made me overlook the two Silver dimes I dug earlier that morning. No matter what #16 will be I look forward to adding it to the coffers. Trapper

Fantastic write up and documentation of conditions. Persistence paid off in a big way there. Congrats!
Thank you Rick for the reply. Persistence was almost not a factor on this one. I had my mind made up not three feet back that this site was hunted out. One hole made a difference on this outing for sure. While I did not dig anything of real note after it did remind me that diligence does have some great rewards. Trapper

Another great hunt ! Congrats and hopefully things are getting back to normal for ya and you start finding more time for yourself to do the things you enjoy so much!

That seated dime makes me a tad bit jelly.
Thank you Metal. I can understand that emotion, I get that way when I see all the east coast Coppers or when Tom pulls another piece of Spanish Silver there in Cali. Over all though I feel pretty blessed that every now and again I get my coil over a some type of Silver. Trapper

Great hunting story and nice finds. I visited one place last fall similar to what you described. The top layer was grassy roots and weeds only about 1-2 inches down, and below that was very fine granular sandy soil. I'd take a scoop of sand out and it would just backfill it was so fine and granular. Found a Merc, a couple IHPs and some wheats at the spot...very different soil than usual.
Appreciate your reply Flood. You description of the soil fits to a tee what I was digging in. The backfilling drove me nuts. I had hope that this site would give me the opportunity to dig a couple of Indians but it was not to be. The church was built in 1870 and is still in use today. I would have thought I'd dig a lot more history but the Seated was the only item from pre 1900 and the two Wheat's the only other that held any age. (1919 & 1925) Trapper

While the hole backfilling itself is kind of annoying, I would say that this type of soil drains very well and that contributed to your coin coming out so nice! I would take this over digging through rocks any day.
Never looked at from that view Geo. Just had never had any soil like it before to play in. Most of the stuff we have in this area is the black loam and it holds water fairly good. Plugs for the most part hold together with some roots going down 3 inches. I agree with you though I don't like digging in rocks either. Trapper

Hunting so far this year has been very good Mike. Just need a lot more time to do a bunch more of it. I have high hopes that the later half of the year will give me a few more opportunities. Trapper

That church spot sounds like some interesting hunting but way to be persistent and land that seated. Congrats on the trifecta too.
Appreciate your kind words Jason, thank you. Been very tough on getting any measurable amount of swing time so far this year. Hope the later part of this year will allow me a lot more opportunities. Trapper

Excellent dimes to make up your trifecta, Trapper! Nice job. :woot:
Thank you Garrett for your reply. I almost gave up on that site just before stumbling over the Seated. It turned out to by my best find of the day and put a little more spark into spending a lot more time in the location. Trapper

Late to the party Trapper - but that's a great hunt, love the pics and that Seated is a great great find. Congrats :)
Better late Jeff than not at all, note this as your reply is appreciated. It was a pretty good day for sure. It's funny as the Seated kinda over shadowed the first part of the day despite the success. Trapper
