Try this if your fed up with property owners asking to split the finds

in alot of states private property is not illegal to go onto, unless it it marked with no trespassing signs. Just to let you know:yes:

also not to be mean but you seem sort of in a dillusional state when you say if you treat someone nice they will treat you nice! How many times have any of us been treated unfairly for doing nothing wrong at all? I am sure lots, as i know i have been as well. In theory it sounds very nice do unto others, but in reality its do unto others what wont get you into trouble.

I will stick with beerdoodles saying , its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission! lol.

True, doing the right thing is often the hardest thing to do - but that doesn't mean you should not try. Yes, I have been treated unfairly by others but it does not make me want to treat others that way. Being 'nice' is not a theory - it is a commandment. Life is just too short to let the bad behavior of others dictate how you live your own life. We all make our own choices.

I'd think that most of the property owners mentioning the split, aren't really expecting anything, just locking in their claim, if there is a major treasure find. I mean, some complete stranger comes, and is interested in searching your land for treasure, couldn't be entirely random, maybe this hunter knows something. You'd feel kind of foolish, if this guy digs up thousands of dollars, and just walks away smiling. Really don't think most people are going to get excited over you keeping a handful of dirty old coins, even if they are silver. Maybe the yellow stuff though, gold has an evil hold on most folks.

It's really not usually worth going through all this, you might hunt all day, and probably would have done much better in the park, or on the beach, unless you collect rusty old nails. Never really any guarantees that there will be 'treasure' to be found. Really don't see me getting into a hassle over anything I found, I got out, found some stuff, had some fun, anything I get to keep is just a bonus. I'd feel happy just for the opportunity to hunt the land.

That is awesome.. I have done the same thing before... After awhile they are like, what they h$ll this sucks... have at it... It is good to geek out and really get excited about the trash.. "I bet this beer top is at least 30 years old!!!" "You can get like .56 cents for a pound of these pull tabs!". This also works when you get the "so how is it going, as they peek out the door after an hour or so to see how many pots of gold you have found" Pull out that trash bucket and get their eyeballs on all that !!!!! lol

I guess to me it depends on if they are dicks about it or if they are a nice person...

One lady asked for just wheat pennys because her son collects them.. She was nice so was happy to oblige.. In fact I plan on going back and giving her son a roll to ensure future access... If they just see you as a source for getting rich they need to be buying their own detector and getting to work Lol.

I'm not saying don't treat others nice. I go out of my way to help ppl all the time. But helping someone and asking permission r two diff things. I have problem going onto property that is not marked no trespassing. Usually fields, but still, worse thing is I'm asked to leave.

Commandment ey:roll:

most homeowners are under the impression that their property is holding a ton of silver coins and jewelry which is far from the truth....thats why if a homeowner brings up a split or follows me around the yard i pack up and leave, my time and equipment isn't worth me splitting a merc and 22 cents in clad. i'm certainly not in this hobby for the money but i do collect coins and some spare change for batteries is a bonus....i'll hunt elsewhere

Well said. I read a post a year ago that said "I'm not in this hobby to get rich, but I am in it to keep my finds". Sums up how I feel
