TRX Field reports. ANYONE add your's

RE-Review on the TRX.

Anyone added a plastic/rubber cap to the tip yet ??
What diameter ??

Works great on the pro-pointers.

WHY put a rubber or plastic tip on it? Unless you are constantly grinding the tip's off in sand or trying to dig in gravel with it you should not need to protect the tip.

Been a few months now that Ive had my TRX. Still have found zero reason to put a battery in my GPP. TRX is on its third battery now. Burned two up so far. They seem to last just as long (9volts) as the GPP on 9volts. Still picking up pennies and dimes easily at 4" even as the moisture leaves the ground making the dirt more sandy like than soil like. Had quite a storm last night and plenty of moisture in the ground again and today I was getting dimes at 5" and qtr's at about 5 1/2 or so. Not solid signals like when they are at 3" or less but still enough to know I am directly over it and can easily push a probe straight down and "Tap" the coin to prove where it really is. Absolutely love the depth on this thing. Thats my biggest selling suggestion is the depth. The ratcheting of it now is just second nature for me. Just as easy as pinpointing with the detector itself but with much more accuracy. Friend has a TRX but has not even used it and I'm trying to figure out why... lol. Yeah, You can "ratchet" with the GPP but ya gotta turn it off and back on to zero it in and then off and back on to reset it. Not the TRX. Simply get close to the coin, tap power button, zoom in closer and if need be repeat. When done simply point it away from you as you are standing back up to start scanning again and press power button quick. There. Reset and ready to pick up dimes at 4"+. Add your feedback on the TRX if you've been using it since you got it.

NO, I am NOT bashing the GPP. They work great. I , for one, just like the TRX better. Still. Not selling my back up GPP. maybe when I buy an updated version of the GPP if Garrett ever releases one thats fully submersible. Thats really the only thing I have not tested with my TRX. Full submersion. May have to get brave.. LOL.

^^ Did the same with GPP, and also wrapped in 3M Super 88 all the way to tail cap.

Super easy to keep them clean.

As a tool guy.. I just don't get all this trying to protect the pinpointer.. it is a tool to sick in the dirt! I should be made to withstand what it is used for without user modifications. If my TRX wears out in 2 years, I will expect a free replacement shell.. I don't expect it to ever need a new shell but I don't dig with it in rocks and sand as I expect some people do in other parts of the country and world..
This is just my opinion.. some guys I worked with used to wash and wax their tool box every friday.. mine got cleaned when I couldn't tell it was red anymore! :D

I like your style ;-) I have two Propointers which I bought back in 2010, and neither one shows even marginal wear on the tips. I use mine to pinpoint only, not dig and scrape a lot. In everyone elses defense though, we don't have lots of rocks in North Dallas. I've hunted lots of gravel driveways and parking lots though. martin

I just picked up a TRX this week. Today I took it on a hunt awesome pin pointer I can pin point much better than with my Garrett's.

No trailer queens here. Only thing you keep neat is something you plan on selling anyways.

Why clean a toolbox..?? YOU know what it is and whats in there.. Who cares what anyone else thinks.. LOL.
Protecting piointers? I dont get it either. The tips on these things are pretty thick I'd assume. If you're digging in rocks with them, Ok. Maybe after a year it might start to wear out but a little ole plastic cap is gonna wear out in a matter of a week if you're digging in that tough of soil.

TRX. Love it. Was not even shy about laying it in the completely soaked grass this morning. Rained late yesterday and last night and was foggy and very damp this morning. My shoes need a day or so to dry out infront of the dehumidifier. :) TRX. Never skipped a beat. Unless you count the fact that its battery is almost dead so it's kinda losing its sensitivity. Or I HOPE thats whats up. Took the battery out of my old garage door opener so I know its at least two years old if not more. Was only one I had with me. :)

Sent my TRX out to Lombard IL yesterday....

Was using it just fine and it started playing music, so I checked the original AAs that came with it and they were still up. Pinpointer worked fine after putting them back in place.

Next time I tried a few days later the unit was dead.... installed a 9 volt and the unit powers itself and then beeps, then led flashes rapid and continues this cycle (at no time will it pickup any metal)

Right from the very beginning I could not do the selection for the speaker/vibrate options so I mentioned that to them as well.

Fingers are crossed for a new replacement, or a quick turnaround on the repair time. (still have PP backup)

Please let us know how it comes out? I have an early unit that works really well but has the 2-3 second turn on delay and no lost alarm. I have a shipping label they sent me (after asking for it) to send it in for reprogramming .. However another person PMed me on Whites forum and suggested I rethink this as he has had many issues since sending in his for the same reason.. For now I am just going to keep dealing with the delay.. I know my unit works well and don't want to take a chance with fixing something that isn't broken.. yours on the other hand needed to be sent back.

Pretty scary, the unit is not even 3 months old at this point.

The other thing confusing is best place to send it to, considered sending it to Sweet Home but did not do so.

Always send your units back to the "Mother Ship" in Sweet Home. It's quicker and they have immediate power to simply send you a new one. They do not like seeing stuff come back.

Just got my Whites TRX last Saturday and it works GREAT. It correctly pinpointed items before I dug my plug. One dime was at least 3" down and it was RIGHT ON. You wont be disappointed in this one.

^^^ live and learn I guess.

Likely would have been 2 days in shipping regardless of where it went.

Whites wants you to send you stuff back to your regional repair shop. I did this with a 3900D coinmaster like 25 or 30 years ago. The repair guy said it would be a few weeks because he had to order some parts from Whites in Sweet Home. So from then on I send everything back to Sweet Home and have been happy with that decision. If they need a part it's right there.

I just got my TRX yesterday and I love it already (big upgrade from the BH thing). However, I have noticed a strange behavior that is repeatable, at least with mine. If I hold it vertically, tip up, and turn it on, it begins to beep/vibrate if I flip it over and point it straight down. Of course, a quick push of the button, and everything is fine again. It doesn't do this at any other angle, as far as I can tell.

Can anyone else duplicate this behavior? I might contact White's and at least mention it to them, just to see what they have to say about it.

I had one that had a similar problem, except on mine regardless of the direction the tip was when turning on and then rotating it in any direction it was a constant beeping. Hit the button and it would stop, but rotate it any direction from that point and it would starting beeping and would not stop unless the tip was pointed in the direction it was first turned on.

Send it back to Sweet Home and it was repaired, they said it was a loose coil.

I believe that "little delay" from turning the TRX on is the unit "setting up" Just like if you turn on a GPP an inch away from a coin. No idea if mine has a functional "Im lost" chime or not. Never lost a pointer so far and don't plan on it. It's usually in my hand until I dig or fill the hole. I too, have one of the early ones. No issues so far. Im using the AA batteries right now to see how they compare to 9volt. Thinking the AA's might be weakening already tho. Mine does keep "falsing" as some may call it when I have it near my right leg. But then again I have my lesch on my hip and my cellphone in my pants pocket thats RIGHT next to my hand when standing with arms by my side. Proximity sensing is what it's doing. If you also have a bottle of coins or pocket full of keys on the side the TRX is on anywhere within about 6" it will keep beeping. Just like the GPP would do if you laid it on the counter over the silverware drawer. Love mine. Hoping to not have issues but ya never know. They are new and problems are sure to pop up. Just like what seems to be every single GPP sold nowadays.
