Treasure hunting and detecting in the Philippines

Some great pictures there , really want to tour it some time.

You are too kind but thanks. IMHO a must see if you are going to hang around Manila for any length of time. Bataan to. Really need to find out if we could bring metal detectors to hunt for relics there.

Neat pics ! ...thanks for sharing

Thanks Gary. I have more.

Thank you SS! I should post more then? :D

But what about that ... D? Whoops!

Zoom--right over my head. ???

I got Bataan pics too. Fighting was just as intense as on Corregidor if not worse. You know there is stuff to be found there. If we went anywhere we would go to Cebu but does not look like a trip will happen this year. I think next year for sure though so I have time to get better with the NOX.

Philippines pictures

Post them babies please Davedude !

Told you people would enjoy seeing them , lot of interest in world war 2 out there. Seeing the size of those guns still on display where they were used so many years ago. You can only imagine what it was like for them to try and hold the Japanese back and defend the islands ,and how loud it was with them going off .

Found some good information on Cebu where you will be going including some pictures, was lots of hard fighting there as well as a large number of Japanese that surrendered there at the end of the war. http://www.182ndinfantry.org/cebu-2015-part-iii-bloody-battles-in-the-hills/ more on the war front on Cebu where Davedude will be going , http://www.182ndinfantry.org/cebu-2015-ghosts-world-war-ii-70-years-later/

Here we go---- a couple more.

As you approach Corregidor by boat, this is the terrain you will see.

This building has a restaurant and admin for the island. I think all the tours go from there but dont remember real well now.

Some of the spaces are nice. Wish I had a view like this from my house!

Not sure what this place was but it is toasted. Would be a good spot for a home now for sure.

Ok back to the guns. Another shot of the mortars. Battery Way?

P1010067 - Copy.jpg

Battle damage. Japanese holed up here had to be removed by force on recapture of the island if I remember correctly.

Someone had some AP!

I am sure that much of all the nice greenery was all blown away during the war , nice to see how it has recovered since the war. Love all those big guns would love to see one in action some time.

Corregidor had at one time the honor of being the most shelled place on the planet I think. The American and Filipino defenders actually counted japanese shells dropped on the island for awhile. Gave up after a million or something like that....There will be shell fragments all over the place.
You can see in some of the photos the brush is very thick and terrain can be brutal but looks like plenty nice low grass areas to swing a coil.
I'd often thought about one of the big "disapearing" guns being restored and used to fire a shot at noon everyday or allowing folks to pay for the priviledge of firing a shot at a target out on the water. Could be good for national pride and if popular enough generate some money. Big momma thump--coastal artillery!

Here is a youtube video of a mortar battery that looks exactly the same as the one on Corregidor firing.

This explains how the tunnel was laid out , and built , it also mentions the Japanese blew up parts of it with them selves in side that has not been reopened.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malinta_Tunnel here is another link with some good photos inside the tunnel and a lay out map https://www.luzonholiday.com/2019/06/18/photos-of-corregidor/

If you go there and dont go in the tunnel you are missing a big part of the Corregidor thing!

I did not realize at the time that Japanese soldiers had sealed themselves inside these laterals. Dang!

P1010130 - Copy.jpg

They have some museum like displays set up inside the main tunnel. I dont remember going into any lateral.

Check the lampost. Captured gun from the Spanish!

Ok--Back to the guns. Now I want to swing the NOX800 around there!

P1010072 - Copy.jpg

You can see the impact of shrapnel on the side of this one. Fighting must have been very intense at times.

P1010073 - Copy.jpg

My wife and my daughter give some size perspective.

P1010076 - Copy.jpg

This crater was the result of a huge detonation, I forget exact cause. Not a good thing to be close around.

P1010078 - Copy.jpg

I'm guessing but the fragments from these big shells are going to ring up like iron yes?

I wonder if anyone runs a diving tour to the dump site off Corregidor where the Americans dumped 270 TONS of lovely delicious silver coins before the Japanese could grab them? I'm not a diver but that would be great to find in a plug, old silver pesos!

Some Corregidor info here about the silver.

Some good info on Corregidor, sorry if it has been posted already.
