Hi guys. My name is Charles and I live in the Northwest section of Arkansas, which is near the Quachita mountains. I understand there to be a little gold here as well but that's not my primary interest. I'm really just looking for coins and relics. This is a hobby I've wanted to take up as a child but now that I'm 36 and have children I think it would be fun for me and them.

My family owns approximately 150 acres in south sebastian county arkansas. It's very rural and all the land is undeveloped. One property in particular (just 8 acres) used to have a different destroyed home on it. My grandparents knew the people that lived there before their home was destroyed in a tornado in the 1950's. At any rate the owner of the house told my grandparents (now passed) that he had a large sack full of silver coins that was lost in the wreckage. I know approximately (1 acre or so) where this house used to be (it's in my front yard). This is the first place I want to look. Granted they could have been sucked up and thrown anywhere but it's a start right?! :)

I'm not sure what other things I need to list as far as requirements. I already own nice headphones so I'm good there. Also I have lots of small diggin tools. So I just need a good detector.

I was immediately drawn to the Fisher Labs Gold Bug as it's the most inexpensive detector suited for small gold nugget detection. There are quite a few creeks that are drainage basins off of the small mountains we have around here and I thought I'd give that a try as well. It's $499.99 and that's a bit steep for me as I'd rather spend $250-$350 so I've been looking on ebay for a used one but have found hardly anything used which probably says a good thing about this particular detector.

At any rate I'd appreciate some hand holding and help as I'm a bit overwhelmed with the choices available.

Thank you so much.

You aren't far from a teknetics T2 classic. They list for 499 but contact me for better price. Great all around machine that can be used for gold prospecting. There are other options used like an minelab x-Terra 705

Just contact one of the dealers here. They are the best and will make you a great deal on any detector. None better than Craig himself.

PM me your phone number, I'm local to you and can help you out in person with tips, tricks and detector selection and instruction with using your machine. Good to see another dad interested in detecting with his kids.

My son is 8 and has been detecting for 4 years now, he loves it, from detecting to diggin, he's already a pro. Nothing like finding treasure with your kids. The real treasure is the time you spend with them!

Good luck on your hunts!

Arkansas does have very small amounts of gold, just nothing worth commercial interests.

At any rate, I appreciate all the responses I have received. PM sent. :)
