Ok today I started on a field and it was absolutely a trash pit, it was in the 1872 map so I made up my mind I was going to stick it out and dig everything. In four hours I dug all this trash from the site! But my persistence earned me a two center, silver merc, few wheats, CW button, Boy Scout buckle, a surface marble, and some utensils. Still more area to cover. I will return when I am ambitious lol.

Nice! You should check to see if those utensils are sterling. I'm going to give it one more try next week at a new field site. Maybe I should dig all the trash signals too?

I've noticed that the closer you are to the road, the more aluminum/foil there is. When I hunted my field a couple of weeks ago, it was obvious there was a home site there because of the bricks I was finding on the surface. You would think there would be more coins there considering my field shows up on the 1870 map, but the only keepers I've come across are 1940s coins. Another thing I decided to do was walk all the way to the middle of the field, away from where the home site was. Believe it or not, I was still getting iron hits on my machine.

I thought the spoon was sterling for sure when I dug it, but I see some places where the plating is wore off, must of had a real heavy silver plating.

yeah most field sites I hunt iron is drug around by the plows a LONG way!

Goes4ever, do you try to do bean fields or are you also in corn stalks? Today I hunted a corn field, in stalks. Its tough to do. We do a lot of fall tillage so most corn fields aren't to bad to hunt. Bean fields can also be a bear but are easier I think then corn stalks. Also was curious how your ground is over there. More clay, sand or black dirt? I think targets stay up better in clay. Do you find this true?

I prefer bean fields, but will do corn too, I use a small coil so it is really no big deal! Our soil is a nice rich black soil, very little clay here

Wow Terry, talk about persistence! Im sure much of that trash were high tones too. Love the 2 center. Ive only have two of them and they came in the same week. Miss finding those coins. Good job bro!

yep, all those chunks of cams gave nice high tones in indian to silver range!

Way to show why it's good to dig everything that could have easily been a site to get discouraged quickly. Congrats on some excellent finds.
