Thinking of getting a new detector

Hey ya'll...I have a White's MX7, which I like, but debating on another detector, specifically the Garrett AT Pro. It's supposed to have a fast recovery speed, and my MX7 doesn't. I don't want the AT Max, I don't use headphones, so don't need the wireless, and looking at cost also. I live in an old farm house, with LOTS of iron all around, which is a challenge. I wish I knew someone with an AT Pro, so I could try it in my yard. I have never found any coin older than 1940 here, I wondered if anything older was deep, and masked by iron. Plus, just would like to see how another detector works, compared to my White's. Anyone used both? or can tell me more about the Garrett?

I did own an MX Sport, which is basically a waterproof MX7. To me the MX Sport was deeper and had better recovery speed than the AT Pro.

For the type of hunting you've described, and keeping costs ($500 or less) in mind, I'd be looking at other machines.

A few suggestions (in no particular order):

Waterproof:

Nokta Simplex
Nokta Legend (base model - no headphones)
Minelab XTP
Minelab Equinox 600 (used)
Minelab Equinox 800 (used)
Quest Q30
Quest X10 Pro

Not waterproof:

XP ORX
Minelab Vanquish (340, 440, 540)
Garrett Apex
Fisher F5 (discontinued, but you can still find them).
Deeptech Vista X (used)

Were it me, the choice would depend largely on whether I needed/wanted a waterproof machine. If not, my choice would be between the ORX, the Vista X, and the Legend. I own all 3 of those machines. The ORX is absolutely amazing in iron trash. The same can be said for the Vista X. I'd rate the Legend as just barely less amazing in iron trash, but still amazing.

If I needed/wanted a waterproof machine, my choice would be the Legend. The Equinox models are very good as well (I do own the 800) but I favor the Legend.

I would get the legend before the equinox 600.

The standard legend pack with wireless phones is cheaper.

In today's newer units the nokta makro, xp and minelabs are gonna be your best bet.

If you did not need smf and wanted a waterproof unit get the xterra pro it would be a better choice than the at pro by a long shot and it is only 269.00 new.....plus waterproof

Thanks ya'll... Didn't even know they made multi frequency detectors. The Equinox 600 is within my price range, found one on Amazon with two coils, for $600. Still doing more research, and comparisons.
The Legend is built better, has better features, and is more versatile than the Nox 600 or Nox 800. The Nox 900 is much more equivalent to the Legend.

Whatever detector you go with, if you detect on trashy sites, then I recommend also getting a 6" round coil, or something around a 9x6.

Forget the at pro, I own one.
Get a Equinox 600 or Vanquish or Legend or Fisher F75,F70.
Hi there, Addict.
Sorry to cut into your discussion. I'm ready to shelve my BH Disc 2200. I was looking for something comparable to an etrac. The variable tone and target depth graphics are the features I'm most interested in. I, like so many others, am interested in finding silver. I've seen the etrac do that very thing, very well. If your budget was $700... what would you choose?

I almost bought an e Trac but suddenly Minelab brought out the Equinox. It was lightweight compared to the Etrac which was one reason of many I got the Nox.
Just my opinion.

Tried it out for just 15 minutes day before yesterday, to look at/get used to the controls...found only a nail. Got it back out today, for only 30 minutes, and found a 1928 penny! The oldest coin I've found here yet!

If I had $700 I would buy a Legend. It’s the best bang for your buck in that range.

Not sure if you have found a detector yet, if not I have a real nice Minelab Equinox 600 in the classified section for $419.00 shipped.

I have the Equinox 600. I didn't spend the extra $300 for the 800 because I'm not likely to be in a gold bearing area, so the dedicated gold mode would be useless. That being said, I have a .458 Ruger #1 Tropical, which is equally useless around here. I think gold and rampaging elephants are equally likely where I am. :)

P.S. I didn't get the Legend because it was still new and undergoing software updates when I bought my detector.

for the cost of an AT Pro there are much better detectors than the ATP, like the Legend, the New Simplex Ultra is the same as the ATP as far as what frequency it runs which is 15 KHz the Simplex Ultra is a single frequency detector also, I own a ATP and never did become one with the Language of the ATP, even the new Mine Lab Xterra pro would be better than the AT Pro, these are my opinions and you have to do what you feel is best for you
