thinking of an at pro

Had mine for a month so far...

I have had my AT Pro for a month now and like it alot. Now I know that I am new to this, and all, but I feel that this machine has the power to go deep. While I am envious of all the silver that the E-Trac users post, I think that it is more my inexperience, simply not getting my coil over silver, and not digging enough. I also remember that I did not pay E-Trac money either, this being my first machine and all, and wasn't sure I was going to like the hobby enough to stick with it. Rather take a loss on a few hundred rather than over a thousand...but that's just me. First few coins, clad, at that, got me hooked, though, and I look forward to spring getting here sos I can hit all these areas that I am currently researching. I think you will like your machine, no matter what you buy, but don't let people knock the AT Pro. At least the current version, now that the bugs are hopefully worked out.

Disclaimerto E-Trac users: Please do not take this as any type of negativity toward the E-Trac. I don't want to start anything, just figured a less expensive machine was better for me at this time.

Im a newbie and am hoping to get me an at pro within the next couple weeks. Ive been watching lots of videos on youtube...mainly aquachiggers videos, and it seems like a great machine. Cant wait to get in the rivers with it this spring. What are the laws regarding river hunting? I mean can u just walk down to ur local river and jump in and start detecting or what? Also, what can i expect to pay for a new at pro? I think theyre right at 700 from garrett. Any better deals on them elsewhere? Thanks yall!

Pretty much all our sponsors have them under $600. Been sort of shopping the past week. Wanting a stronger machine, but I'm kind of cheap, and want to get the best value for the buck. Tempted by the ATPro, but think I'd be more interested in a used unit, on that's already taken the trip back to the factory, and made right. Most of the Garrett owners here, have great things to say about customer service, and fast turn around, which is reassuring. I just don't like the idea of waiting patiently for my brand new machine to arrive, getting it unpacked, put together, batteries installed, and not knowing if it's working right, or if I'm doing something wrong. Having to actually read the manual, and still not sure if it's me or the machine. It's still on the list, lots good points, ones the bugs are gone. Could pretty much buy any hobby machine, just looking for the best function, and value, not just a brand name.

I've been watching this thread and I have also watched all of the Garret basic vids on on the AT PRO. I don't have any reason in my mind why I wouldn't buy one of these units. I just got 2 md's from a pawn shop the other day. I know their quality is very poor, haven't even used them yet because of the frozen tundra. I know already that I'm going to upgrade and from what I've read and seen I think the AT PRO is on the list.

I have one of the newer style from 4 months ago. Don't see why anyone would trash the machine. It's easy to learn, pinpoints dead on by at least two different methods I've used. Has good depth and very good separation. Throw in water proof to 10 feet and at that price what's not to like? If you have a problem Garrett has an excellent reputation for solving problems.

I have both the AT-Pro and an E-Trac and I love them both. They are different tools for different applications. Especially with some extra coils.

There will always be some people who are unhappy with something. Why, there's even people who don't like pickup trucks!
