The Posts I Most Enjoy

With no paucity of verbosity, I'm renown for my prolixity. And with those few words I have - hopefully - proved I wasn't trying for anything overly ornate in my first post. Yeah, if anything I toned that bad boy down a notch, or two. Whatever else - and whatever my reservations about the tone of a couple of the succeeding replies - I did enjoy several of them, none more so than the creative Dr. Seuss spin (that's me genuflectin' in the author's direction). I found it interesting that Stephen King's name was invoked, as well. For one thing Mr. King advocates is that you write for your ideal reader, i.e., yourself. As I'm not one for Hemingway's stripped down prose, it follows that my tastes run more towards Mencken, Poe and Sheed. No less predictable is my own fondness for wordplay that sometimes finds me taking the scenic route in making my point. Don't like it? Then recognize the significance of my moniker herein and press on. No hard feelings. Really. Different (key) strokes for different folks. Just don't give me a hard time for how I choose to express myself, and I will extend you that same courtesy.

I think he's trying to communicate with us...

Just with some, Crumble. Namely, those who are civil and respectful. Ergo, definitely not with you.

I almost posted twice on this, but I refrained. I just can't take it anymore. Why must you try to show us how smart you are with your words. It's one thing to use a high end vocabulary word on occasion, when simple terms just don't describe it precisely.
Not quite sure the point of your post, but alas you got me to comment so kudos to you.

My God, I never thought that Friendly Metal Detecting (a misnomer...?) would avail itself as a showcase for the dumbing down of America. What? Am I supposed to tailor my every thought to some lowest common denominator? Don't be so damn defensive. If you don't understand a word, then avail yourself a dictionary. Do you think that my vocabulary was conferred upon me via osmosis? No. I frequent readings that challenge me, that help me improve my mind and keep it stimulated (a concern as one gets older). Re-read everything I have said herein. Up to this post, I honestly cannot identify anything objectively objectionable. It's amazing how easily some are intimidated at others who are apparently more intelligent than them in some areas (want to feel better? Hand me a ratchet and watch me fumble with that s.o.b. A screwdriver in my hands is a lethal weapon, and nothing but). We all have different strengths. Yours seems to be appealing to the "everyone's a winner" mentality that is undermining this country. Jeez.

Maybe it is just me, but I really enjoy your posts. I may have to read it a couple of times and look up a word or two, but that is half the fun and enjoyment. And that is before thinking about the subject of the post :)

C'mon guys, lighten up on WriterCop a little.

Tony, at this point I'm worried that no matter what I say it'll provoke someone. But I will say I *really* appreciate that. Thanks :)

Speaking/writing eloquently is one thing, but your posts come across as trying too hard...

Go anywhere and use those exotic words, and people will look at you like you are a unicorn.

Maybe you should take our criticism as constructive, and tone it down a bit...

Pretty much anybody can be a literary genius these days, most word processor programs have all the tools need to correct spelling, grammar, and suggest words (thesaurus), that make the writing look intelligent. But, I'd think an intelligent person, with a rich vocabulary, should have no trouble choose words appropriate for those reading. This is casual conversational type forum. To choose words, which are rarely (if ever) spoken, here, TV, radio, just sort of makes me wonder... I'm by no means a writer, english/writing classes in school were my worst subjects, since I learned to read and write english early in life. Mostly nothing new, or interesting, and a lot of boring homework.

Hello WriterCop:grin: Please continue to post about anything that you would like to on the Friendly Detecting Forum. There are all different types of detectorists here that might have a remark or two towards a post, but for the most part they are all meaning to be positive comments. I find your posts interesting and enlightening to read, and its definitely fun to look up words if I do not quite get the meaning of them. I agree with you on the pictures with posts part of your post. The story maps out the details on what it takes to decide whether it is a digger or as we call it trash. There are so many signs to be considered in a metal detectors signal that are very important to know such as VDI and tones before you dig up what your listening to in the ground. Every signal is telling you a story about its metal consistency. Thank you for your posts, and please continue to comment and post often on the Friendly forum.

I agree with writercops original post. I appreciate additional info as to types of area, certain settings that may have been used (ie machine type), or signal clues to help educate us novices. gps coordinates would be pointless because, asides from the location, the find will no longer be there.

as for the writing style, I don't mind. It caused my brain to dust off a few rusty unused brain cells. :D I like something different now and then to, keeps things interesting. different strokes for different folks, nothing wrong with that.

Tony, at this point I'm worried that no matter what I say it'll provoke someone.

The reason, at least in my opinion that you would/are provoking people is because the way you type/talk you're coming off with that elitist attitude like you're better then everyone else. Just a thought.

Now wheres my thesaurus?....

Your original post, although hard to read, isn't even the problem. This is where the thread went wrong:

I figured that most herein were capable of reading at a fifth grade level... At least I need not wonder who's been supporting the Dr. Seuss corner of the market...

If you start slinging insults, you better expect people to speak their minds.

Your modus operandi is not only inutile, it smacks of invidious opprobrium..

It appears to me that your mind is atoning for an abridgement of societal competence, which not only is detrimental to your continuance, it is actually assisting an edifice of detestation..
