Surf PI Pro

Craig...I want Whites to make the DF with a 9 inch epoxy filled coil or one similar to the Pro. I liked the gain and delay features on it.

I would buy one in a minute. That 12 inch coil is way too big, too buoyant and yup...has problems leaking.

I asked them to do that and they told me they no longer make that coil... so I sold the DF.

if there is alot of trash and iron on beach dont use it they are great on clean beaches good luck

haha. Yes, there's an old saying about these beach PI machines: "The good news is: They're so sensitive, they can find a bobby pin to a foot deep !" And the corollary is: "The bad news is: They're so sensitive, they can find a bobby pin to a foot deep!"

Thus, since a lot of standard disc. machines can get *just* as deep, then the only thing left is black-sand penetration (if your particular beaches pose that problem), and micro-jewelry, and tinsel thin chains. It's a trade off, depending on how much iron your beaches presents.

Best advice is learn what a deep round signal sounds like.. what a double beep and chatty response is. ....

I have heard many PI users claim that .... although they can't disc. out iron, yet: They can tell by audio. But when push comes to shove : They are digging a bunch "just to make sure". And if the nail is bent (versus straight) all bets are off. And I've seen pulse guys leave perfectly good beaches, that were riddled with targets after storm erosion , leave for "greener grounds" because the nails were driving them crazy. Those would be situations where depth is no longer the name of the game (nothing is deep). And black sand is a non-issue. So the "issue" is then speed. Ie.: how much can you get of the free-for-all-targets, before the next high tide chases you out ? It's situations like that , where the pulse would not be the best for playing the Las vegas odds.

Never noticed, thanks for the tip!!! ....and of course, that was some mighty nice results from the PI

Found all of this (sans sub) on one hunt last year with the White's PI Pro:

Nice hunt Compass. The PI Pro was humming that day !

Thank you! I should add that the reason I was using the PI Pro that day was because my Dual Field was in the shop getting a replacement coil.

Monday or Tuesday I join the PI club ! I hope Monday then I can take it to a local beach to begin the learning process.
From what I hear from White's, that this comes with a 12 inch coil and what I see on YouTube, This PI is good for a first maching due to it being easy to set and use.

I will see if they are true and if you hear someone screaming, It maybe me, so The east coast MD may hear me !

If you have a 12 inch coil then you don't have a PI PRO the PRO was made with the 9.5 concentric coil.

You will love the dry sand... plenty of wonderful, collectable bottle caps

Nice machine. Light, inexpensive, great depth - even in black sand. Pity about no ferrous ID however - all those fishhooks, Bobby pins, nails, Corona caps.

Would be so nice if there was a waterproof pulse induction detector which had ferrous ID/exclusion and was significantly deeper than an Excal or CZ21.

Maybe it will really happen.

Maybe this year - maybe next.

I thought the same- must be the Dual Field PI which I like even better.

Well we will see what I get. The coil in the pic does say 950 on it but whites said it's a 12 inch coil, as I called to see if they had any coil covers for it. I did order and get a 12 inch coil cover. Whites did say I have to get a coil cover with the numbers 300 for it and I did find one.

Coil cover....just be careful.

If you are hunting in the water or suds and on sand and not rocks/jagged bottom, it may not be necessary.

Sometimes they are more of a pain in the butt then they are worth, especially when salt water/sand mix gets in there and messes with the machine making it erratic.

If you have a coil cover on, and after a while the machine is acting funny, it's probably a good time to take it off and clean it out.

Just a heads up.

950 stands for 9.5 inches what color is the coil? The 12 inch coil looks like a open spider coil and its yellow the PI PRO coils came in black and a yellow neutral buoyancy coil..

this is what the PI PRO coil looks like below

That's it !

So that is 9.50 inch then? Do you have a coil cover for it?

Why would Whites tell you it was the 12 inch coil... you can get that coil from them just request the 950 coil cover...

You need to tell them its for the PI PRO not the DF if its a neutral buoyancy coil you don't even need a coil cover.. I don't use them because its more drag and another place for grit and sand to collect.

I will be in the sand with this MD so I would like to protect the coil.
I see 2 coil covers that fit the coil. What one fits ?

The coil has a flat bottom that is what you need. I hope you mean wet sand.. dry sand will drive you crazy with the amount of trash in it... people are slobs and its not going to be fun digging down 18 inches for a gum wrapper. even in the wet if your beaches have lots of iron prepare for a work out.. I hunted exclusively with the PI PRO for 5 years and I dug it all until I learned what i could skip over... I won't get into that because you need to dig it all and learn the detector first.

Yes wet sand ! I got a beach MD for dry sand areas that today I found a dime 8 inches down.

I will order another coil cover !

I am tracking this package via FedEx x and yesterday it was one state away then today back in Chicago!
So something happened to the package and being sent back or someone took a wrong turn and thinks the Northeast is the Northwest.

I finally got it delivered yesterday.
I need a new battery holder and the armcuff is missing so I am looking for them.
This was not packed well and coil was seen before I even opened the box. I took pics on how the box was delivered and called EBay. They helped me find a new battery holder. I was able to get a tone out of the machine when I squeeze it together.

I will try to test it out today .
