Been really enjoying this thread!!

Have any of the local or other news organizations picked up the story yet on this new find? I know they have know about the crash, but your new info is what I am wondering. Thanks and keep us posted!

I know that the German graves commission is going to do a story about the crash and I am going to try and get Stars and Stripes to do one as well. I dont think any of the big name news networks would want to cover this story

Awesome finds!
One question though.
Do i see silvertipped .50 rounds on that picture?
If so, be very carefull since the silvertipped ones are phosphorous AT rounds.
Don't mess around with those, they will burn and the fumes are very toxic.
This might come in handy when finding .50 rounds:

You just found someones life savings that they worked for all their life lol

Wow awsome finds!!!! Wish i still lived in germany. I would love to hunt there. Have you ever hunted Bitburg afb? I know part of it closed but its owned by germans im sure you could hunt it!!!(thats where i used to live).

Yeah I have hunted bitburg base a couple of times, the old side of the base where the gym and post office is located was Hitlers headquarters during WWII. The tortured and interogated upwards of 30,000 people in the basement of the AFN building. A buddy and I hunted over there and we found a ton of hat badges and some cool buttons from WWII.

the picture of the buckle peices in the lower right appear to be part of a Gunner's belt. pretty familiar with it we still use the same design.

Thanks for identifying those buckles! I am headed to turn over the remains and show the site to the German and American government tomorrow. I have done a ton of research and I have been able to find 8 of the 19 family members of the crew. All of them are very excited to see what happens with the crash site. I will post more pictures tomorrow!

You should video record it and make an Ireport for CNN , outstanding work you are doing !

We are recording it! I did not think of CNN I always thought they would scoff at a story like this.... I think all of the family should be told of the crash site before they show it on the news. That is probably what the JPAC team will say...to keep quite until the family is contacted. Which is just fine with me....

Well done guys for doing this the right way. An interesting thread. Surprised to read mention of JPAC trying to set up more dialogue between amateur diggers/detectorists and themselves. We tried a similar thing around 10 years ago with CILHI with a big meet in Strasbourg between diggers etc. It hasn't really come to much since then.

Certainly as long as results like this can be held up as good examples of responsible metal detecting, with due deferance to the memory of the lost then we're moving in the right direction.

Stars & Stripes will be up to do a piece on this I'm sure.

Good Hunting,
Simon.

I talked to Stars and Stripes today and they are sending out a reporter and videographer to document what we found. I am happy that they are doing a story on this crash site and I think this will show that detectorists do things by the book and will give us some good PR. But most importantly it will tell the story of the sacrifices made by these men... That have long been forgotten....

Wow Kolby, amazing! I haven't been on much recently so I only just saw this. Big congrats on everything. Those silver coins are the find of a lifetime, and the crossbow bolt is really cool too.

Well the interview with Stars and Stripes went really good and I turned the remains over to the German police.. the article should run sometime next week after the forensic lab says the bones are human and are of the same age as the plane crash.....
