Some musings about HOW GOOD the Equinox might be...

They have the patent on this "new" technology, if it was that great and such a new breakthrough that it just dominates the CTX, they would never slit thier own throat. Nobody else could come close nor would they be able to with the patent in place. It would cost more than the CTX and people would pay it if it was that good.

It could very well start a new lineup of detectors like you say, but it would never begin at this price point. Out of all the doubts and speculation going around, Minelab knows for sure what they have and how much that is worth. At best, let's just hope this isn't a $400 piece of junk that is trying to sell for $800 because it has a Minelab logo on the side of it. I doubt they would do that, but they certainly wouldn't be the first...

It dont have to dominate the CTX , all it has to do is dominate the market. ;)

If the CTX is costly for them and they have chosen a different direction the CTX may not be the flagship of the future. Many good and useful products get retired early in favor of new directions. Sometimes from the outside it seems like a step backward , but we dont know what they have in the works.....could be preparation for the step forward.

Again I say I think we're seeing the end of one era, and the beginning of another. The Era of high performance at a minimal cost. In fact I venture to say Makro was probably the true leader in this movement, but being a newcomer makes it very tough to ring in a whole new concept. I think the Equinox is just Minelabs entry into this new era, and already having a very healthy name in the market, they will jump to top gun.

I loved the Racer 2, not so found of the Red Racer. Both are great for the money, but in my opinion the Racer 2 was a lot like the AT Pro in that it is a very good performer for the money. Now everybody seems to be getting in the high performance low cost game. A great time for us users IF we can get through all the hype and see the meat is real behind these new light weights.
