Some kind of pin or military bars?

Went through junk pile from Sun dig and this was caked in dirt. Cleaned it up and it looks a little like captain bars, hoping someone can help.

They look like Captain's bars but the dimensions look a bit wrong. Also, the way they attach is not correct for military. These are probably from a military school or ROTC type insignia.

There is a military school not ten miles from the site. I also found one of these metal soldiers nearby and unfortunately only parts of his buddies who clearly fought bravely.

Without an doubt at all, I will tell you those are Captains/ Lieutenant (Navy) bars. The pin on it is just a much older version (Pre 1960's).

Those you have look like Army. The Marine Corps are smaller, and the navy is just a little different.

Could also be police rank as well, cops do/did use the same system....
