We finally got some good soaking rain, so as soon as it quit, I went to my local park. This is a little park that has been worked over pretty good. Haven't found any silver there yet, and only one wheat cent. Today, I got a little clad, a twinkling star pendant, and a honey bear ring with the ring part broken to pieces. Junk. It started raining again, so I gave up, and went for a little drive to a big park. Finding nothing but pulltabs and an occasional memorial penny, I was losing faith. I worked around a volleyball court and a baseball field with little to show. Got rained out again, so I ducked under the trees and gave it some thought. I decide that the big open outfield looked inviting, so I worked a line or two; hitting occasional clad, but not too many pulltabs. A couple wheats were dug from about 5 to 6 inches, so my hope was coming back. Then I dug a 1911 Barber dime! My first Barber dime ever! Now, I start a tight grid pattern. Only took a couple minutes to dig a Buffalo nickel. Then, a bit later came a war nickel. Got a couple more wheats along the way. Kept finding those little rimfire shell casings. Then I pulled a Rosie. Found a poker chip. Dug a wrench and a .38 Special casing. A dog tag. An old 12 ga headstamp. Then another war nickel! This 1945 was the shiniest war nickel I ever found in the dirt. Then, as it started raining again, I pulled another wheatie. One incidental memorial penny after that, and I was running for cover.

So my first Barber dime was silver #10 FTY, and it came with #11, 12, and 13; with Buffalo #4. Now I have another place to hunt silver too.

Sounds like a good day in the end[emoji1303] I’m sure there’s plenty more in that field

Bounty hunter - treasure hunter - cabelas special edition.
Best find to date - 15g platinum ring
Total clad 2018 - 45$

Heck yeah! I can see some fella out in the field with his little old timey leather baseball glove and his newsboy hat, taking out his handkerchief to wipe his brow and dropping that dime.......had to go without lunch I’ll bet

A good day it was. I'll be going back for more. Thanks.

Right? It's always a wonder how each coin ends up where we find them. Part of the fun of detecting!

Great Job!
I love finding Barbers.
First you win contests, then you find old silver, go man go!
Thanks! Don't forget the gold ring too. Guess I like to mix it up when I'm on a lucky streak. :D

Hey Congratulations on that Barber Dime! Also, your write up about taking a moment to look around at the area, trying to 'see' it.. and thinking about what the dirt finds were telling you, putting you in the paydirt lane!...thats super important for success in this sport!...probably primary over anything else...

Thanks guys. I really should spend some time learning some more of the settings on my White's Eagle Spectrum. I read the manual a few times, and learned a few tricks to turn up the power & sensitivity in cleaner areas to get better depth, but there's a lot of features I never even tried. An extra inch down, or less rejection could mean some great finds. Places like this ballfield are good for experimenting/practicing.

Congrats on your first Barber and other finds! Good work.

Thanks everyone! Bugspray is a good Idea. Should've had it on me tonight. I went back to the ballfield, and got a couple more silvers and stuff. Posted as "Back to the ballfield"
