We finally got some good soaking rain, so as soon as it quit, I went to my local park. This is a little park that has been worked over pretty good. Haven't found any silver there yet, and only one wheat cent. Today, I got a little clad, a twinkling star pendant, and a honey bear ring with the ring part broken to pieces. Junk. It started raining again, so I gave up, and went for a little drive to a big park. Finding nothing but pulltabs and an occasional memorial penny, I was losing faith. I worked around a volleyball court and a baseball field with little to show. Got rained out again, so I ducked under the trees and gave it some thought. I decide that the big open outfield looked inviting, so I worked a line or two; hitting occasional clad, but not too many pulltabs. A couple wheats were dug from about 5 to 6 inches, so my hope was coming back. Then I dug a 1911 Barber dime! My first Barber dime ever! Now, I start a tight grid pattern. Only took a couple minutes to dig a Buffalo nickel. Then, a bit later came a war nickel. Got a couple more wheats along the way. Kept finding those little rimfire shell casings. Then I pulled a Rosie. Found a poker chip. Dug a wrench and a .38 Special casing. A dog tag. An old 12 ga headstamp. Then another war nickel! This 1945 was the shiniest war nickel I ever found in the dirt. Then, as it started raining again, I pulled another wheatie. One incidental memorial penny after that, and I was running for cover.
So my first Barber dime was silver #10 FTY, and it came with #11, 12, and 13; with Buffalo #4. Now I have another place to hunt silver too.
