After doing some research was able to locate an old 1830s homestead site on state land, buildings all demolished and overgrown with brush and weeds, a really desolate place far away from any other homes in the country. After scouting with my nox 800 wasn't able to locate much, but the features that remained gave clues on where to look. Was able locate where the house and original barn was, old cistern, and it was clear that dirt had been moved around extensively when the house and barn was demolished, and cellar filled in. After realizing I needed to stick to the fringe areas, closest to barn and house where the dirt was still undisturbed, I cut a few test plots, clearing the thick matted grass with my hand held weed cutter to locate old dirt. Set my nox to F2 for iron bias, sensitivity 23, accept/reject at -3 to gain depth and mitigate iron yet still keep gold as much as an option and 11 inch coil. Yes the place was loaded with iron and used the horseshoe button often to zero in on targets through the iron soup. I began to repeatable midtones (bottlecaps and bits of scrap copper) and finally found a deep scratchy 29-31 tone and repeatable, dug and up came sterling ring with stones, (later confirmed they were green turquois), definitely has some age. My girl got that and she wears it now. After expanding the test plot (lot of work) it did pay off with an IHP and a nice 2 cent coin, love those! Nice suspender clip with an 1830 patent date. Over by the cistern got a nice Nichols cap gun in good shape, early 60s I think. Included a few pics about the site. 1874 drawing of the farm, was beautiful, nothing remains, kinda sad, and a pic of what appears to be an early washbasin in the running creek 50 feet off the back of the house possibly for dishes, clothes? Plan on revisiting this site in the future to carve out more plots to detect. Hope you enjoyed seeing this as much as I did sleuthing this site.

Very Nice! You've shown it pays to do a little homework! Nice Job!
