I haven't been detecting much lately but I met up with forum member Romy for a short low tide hunt. The rain made things a little uncomfortable and we didn't find a lot in a heavily hunted area but we both found a couple of nice targets.
I managed a silver Rosie but the biggest surprise was a very small ring that was fairly deep in the wet sand. It was a faint signal that I might have missed if I didn't find a shallow coin nearby. It came out of the sand clean and shiny and looked a little like stainless steel but felt a little too heavy in my hand.
It wasn't stamped but Romy thought it was platinum. When I got home I gave it the acid test and ALL acids held steady and didn't look like they were going to change even a half hour later.

GL & HH!

That sure does look like a well made ring! Nice settings and all the correct visuals......Let us know what you find out it is...You might have to take it into a Jeweler and let them check it with their electronic tester...It cant be Titanium, too heavy....Cant be Tungsten or you would of never got the scratch test..Custom Platty you think?.

Very Cool there Compass!

I would never argue with a platinum ring. Good to see some So. CA reports !

Way to go! Will say after a jeweler looked at one of my unmarked plats, he said a custom plat is seldom marked. I do also have a Plat that you can barely still see a Plat mark. Weight is a dead giveaway though.

SO SO HAPPY TO HAVE SEEN YA SCORE A WINNER ! You deserve it man and called it at breakfast :wow: i said man George ya cant keep buying me breakfast and your reply was im gonna find a gold ring today romy and well you got a even better one, Platinum with Diamonds =) WTG ! That is a little guy, but has really nice detail... Nice find...

To test for platinum, drop it in a bit of hydrogen peroxide. If it bubbles it is... Platinum is a catalyst which will release oxygen bubbles... ;)

Pretty! Congrats!
Thanks Kap!

Awesome looking ring!
Thank you Zee!
So its still unknown metal?
I'm sure it is platinum M.A.

Thank you professor! I just tested it. At first, nothing, and I thought "uh-oh".
But then small bubbles started to accumulate on the ring and as the bubbles got bigger they would leave the ring and rise to the surface. It wasn't like boiling water but enough to see the effect! Great tip!
