Saw a used equinox for sale

Minelab is honest about their detectors capabilities.

All you have to do is read the specs on the Minelab site and it's easy to see that the Equinox does not and was not meant to compete with the Etrac or CTX.

The Equinox is obviously designed well and will perform as per the specifications but was it meant to replace Minelabs flag ship machines? Uh.....Minelab didn't fall off the pulltab truck from Goobertown yesterday folks. Just sayin....

I might also add, this feeding frenzy has at least produced a real opportunity to buy a good used Etrac or CTX at bargain prices at least for the time being:yes:

I've watched most of the videos of the equinox in action and while I will get one as a main water machine, it will mostly be a backup. On land I still prefer FBS due to the stability of the TID, at depth equinox just doesn't seem to give the numbers fbs does.

For ctx or etrac users it's really not much of an upgrade as long as you go slow in the iron or unless you don't want to dunk the expensive machines.

For someone just starting out it's a game changer I mean sheesh equinox 600 and I can hunt in saltwater yes please

I think the takeaway here is minelab next machine combined multi iq and fbs 2. Get rid of gps and put it in a waterproof slim package and there is the ctx pro or whatever

I think you are mistaken. Nox doesn't compete with the CTX. Why would Minelab create a 900.00 machine to compete with their flagship 2700.00 machine? Minelab brass have more business sense than that. Of course this is my opinion.

I agree, the nox IMO was made to compete with the other mid range competition, minelab would be dumb to make a detector that outperforms there best machine, at half the cost. It would be like shooting themselves in the foot... Its like when the AT max came out, everyone said they were the deepest machine made, not hearing that tune so much anymore

Think about it like this...... Lets us say for easy fairly conservative numbers that there are 4,000,000 detectorist worldwide, and of those 4mil, 10% can afford or are willing to cough up $2400.00 for a ctx 3030....
4,000,000 x 10%= 400,000 x $2400.00 =$960,000,000 (wow)

Now take the Nox affordability @ $800.00 and assume half can afford it
4,000,000 x 50%= 2,000,000 x $800 =$1,600,000,000 (double wow)

and I think these number are fairly conservative.....
I think they are filling a niche and providing a great machine (time will tell)
and clearly will be cashing in! Just my clad two cents

50% of all detectorists worldwide owning an Equinox....... Conservative?

I remember when ctx came out $2500? Are you kidding?
E trac $1500??? Thats really hard to swallow that boat anchor
Equinox came along and its light at only $899 retail...Oh yeah, they will sell like hotcakes.

I think the first Mfg that offers upgrades to existing detectors instead of making a completely "new" machine will make some money. How about a new screen "upgrade" for the Etrac?

Me and electricity are total strangers but it just seems to me that new innards for old detectors that otherwise perform just fine would have some merit??

Minelab has a new service center in the US now so why not use it for something more than warranty/fix it cause it's broke services? How about an UPGRADE option Minelab????

Right?! That was one of their main selling points with the CTX too when it came out was that it was upgradable. There was a couple right off the bat to fix some things then nothing. I would be willing to bet a new upgrade would even boost some new sales as well and put it back in the spot light. Maybe once they pull in their money off the nox they will do it. I could see them not wanting to do an upgrade now because it may pull the spot light off the nox sales. If I could add one option to the CTX I would like to have a setting for depth/audio. I set the depth and audio is very quiet for any target closer to the surface then my setting. Almost like a depth disc. Now that would be something, get it done minelab!

I didn't see any old timers say that in fact I heard that one of the most respected old timers (Andy Sabisch) said that anyone that thinks that way and then goes out and buys one is going to be majorly disappointed. I'm pretty sure Andy Sabisch is one of the most knowledgeable people on this subject.

No disrespect towards Andy, but I’ve read his books and never put much stock in what he said. Now,that’s just my opinion, yours may vary..But I wasn’t referring to Andy in my post.

I am getting one to compliment my CTX and replace my At Pro. I will use the Nox for water hunting tot lot hunting and when to test some new spots.

But I will say this, when this machine first came to light, and I saw a lot of old timers on here who I thought knew what they were talking about, saying it would Best a 3030,Etrac ,deus,v3i,,I thought they’d lost they’re mind.

Calling the game a bit early aren't we! The major players haven't even taken the field yet and you're calling the game? LOL

With the EQ800 priced at $900, adding on accessories, 6” coil, waterproof HP,
The price of the EQ’s go up and so will Minelab’s bottom line.
I would bet that for a set of Wp HP and 6” Coil, one can spend an additional $_____. Fill in the blank.

And I guess you also think the alleged know-it-alls on this forum know more about Minelab than he does . I mean a guy running the Minelab bootcamp obviously doesn't know what he is talking about.

At least NormX2 gets it..... "The Equinox is obviously designed well and will perform as per the specifications but was it meant to replace Minelabs flag ship machines? Uh.....Minelab didn't fall off the pulltab truck from Goobertown yesterday folks. Just sayin...."

No offense taken. We all have different views,no big deal.I just know from my own experiences from reading his books I learned nothing I didn’t learn from the manual.Im sure he’s a good guy, just not my go to guy if that makes sense.
Actually,I would put my faith in a civilian outside a company before I would take the chance on putting my faith in a possible yes man who works for the company.

Its gonna be an entertaining Spring this year!!

I agree here, watching this machine in action all over the country. I just know one day my dream machine will hit the market "let your legs do the swing and your hands do the digging":laughing:

Test for me

Will be how the CTX3030 with the 17 coil , compares with the Equinox 800 with the 15 inch coil at the beach this season, besides the Gold chain test :D

The business strategy of making a machine at a lower price point and selling more total units absolutely can be a much more profitable strategy.

I own a Equinox, a CTX, and a Deus. The equinox flat performs and looks to be bridging the gap between the CTX and DEUS for me. And for you water hunters it is the only machine that gives a signal on a fine gold chain I have:)

It is always fun reading threads with people commenting on a machine they have never touched.
