Our young family has been somewhat 'addicted' to a couple YouTubers who are detectorists (NuggetNoggin and AquaChigger to name two) and my wife and I decided to invest in two detectors for Christmas!

We bought two Bounty Hunter detectors - the Junior Metal Detector (for our kids to share - they are 5 and 8), and a Sharpshooter II (for me). We also invested in a pinpointer (Bounty Hunter's model), a pair of headphones, a Fiskars garden tool, and a carry bag for our gear.

We've been out in two backyards so far and have definitely been "bitten" by the detecting bug. It's unbelievable. While the kids lose interest within an hour or two, I've not been able to come inside until I've been numb from the cold.

Here's a couple shots of our first finds and A pic of the three of us "on the hunt" (attached)

I'm most surprised at the quantity of our finds already! I think I assumed it would take much longer to "find stuff", but was pleasantly surprised to carry in some clad on both days of hunting thus far. I am prepared for this to not be the case on every day of hunting, but it is a fun way to start in the hobby for sure.

I'm looking forward to investing some time and energy into this forum and hopefully making some connections and learning from all of you who have many years of education in a hobby I'm only beginning in!

silver and/or gold will no-doubt be a big step forward, but I'm going to enjoy even the "stinkin' lincolns" at this point! :)

Welcome aboard from Michigan. Hope you have a lot of fun and bonding with your children. 4 of my 6 daughters are hooked.

Fun - check!
Bonding with my kiddos - check!

I'm looking forward to warmer temperatures and their willingness to stick with it a little longer than they are right now! :)

Welcome from Indiana. That is great that the girls have fun with you. Next spring when it is much warmer, I think the kids will have more fun. Take them to a park in the play ground. Have fun... KEN.

Talk about being addictive, I started this hobby a little over 18 months ago in southern California, where I was hunting full time thru the winter. The loss of my job and some lingering personal issues made it necessary for me to move back to Indiana where my wife lives.

I am seriously thinking bout moving back to California, now that's addictive.

Welcome from KC, MO. When you start doing parks you will find more clad, a LOT more pull tabs, soda cans, some keys and some jewelry. I envy you that your family is interested in MDing. My wife shows about as much interest in MDing as she does going to the range to target shoot - NONE.

welcome from mass, my daughter is 18 months and I cant wait for her to be able to swing one
