San Francisco Bay Area

V.E.

Welcome from Kansas. Midway U.S.A.
I've never been there but with its history, it should be a gold mine of sites to hit. Probably a very good chance of finding some gold coins too.

Hi from Rick. Saw your 101 patch. I served with the 82nd. I'm out in California. Looking for places to metal detect haven't been easy. The S.F. beaches are off limits.

rick-coron, this is a very old post. Maybe none of those persons are still checking back on this thread. But to answer some of your questions: There's several bay area posters who are on this forum. And more too on the kinzli forum mentioned in this thread. To get on that forum, you have to sign up. Just pick a name and password.

As for the "beaches being off-limits", that's not entirely true. Only beaches that are administered by the fed's. Thus any beaches that are state, county, or city, are not under any scrutiny. And to be honest with you, I'm not so sure how much anyone cares about the fed ones either, as.... there's humorous stories of persons who didn't know any better, and .... simply went. Yet never heard "boo" from a soul.

As for the part of this thread where persons muse about Golden Gate park issues, they're confusing that with Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Those are two different entities (despite sharing the same "Golden Gate" in their name). The city parks (like GGP), don't have any prohibitions specific to md'ing. HOWEVER, you still should ... uh ... use discretion. I mean, go at low traffic times, don't "stick out" begging for attention.

Good luck !
