Rechargeable batteries?

I guess rechargeable batteries have changed since I started hunting. back in the early '80's my Tek 9000 came with rechargeable batteries . . . 14 of them. Needless to say 14 AA batters were expensive to buy. I started out using the ones that came with it. Back when I was younger i would hunt all day. I started out in the morning and only quit when the sun went down. It seemed like when I was a good distance from my car, the batteries would suddenly go dead. The regular batteries (I don't believe that they were even alkaline back then) would gradually lose their power but not all at once. I gave up on the rechargeable and stuck to the regular batteries. Even at 14 batteries with heavy use it seemed as though I got a month or longer use out of them. I have never trusted rechargeable ever since. Even though I have some rechargeable batteries and chargers, they remain in my drawer unused.
