Question aout pinpointing devices

Yeah I wouldn't even want a pinpointer with 3 4 inches depth. I pinpoint well with my detector so no need for anymore than a few inches of detection from a pinpointer imo

IF that was it's permanent detection range, I wouldn't want it either, but most (including the garretts) let you detune them so you can get increasingly closer to the actual target.

I would rather have more range to begin with, than not enough to detect a deep, small, or on-edge target in the side of the hole.

Well if its that deep you just dig more either way lol

But I agree abt more and not needing it than less and needing more. Makes sense...

Btw I do use supertune and detune at times but not really necessary in most instances if you pinpoint well with a detector. Takes on avg less than 1 minute to retrieve a target more often than not.

Good points!

This is all true, but there have been a few times where the detector swears to me that the target is in the center of the hole at 4 inches, and it's something like a thin piece of wire, 2 inches deep, 3 inches to the side. Minority I know, but it happens.

Haha yeah chased a few myself...worst is those .22 short shells as they always seem to move on me lol

I use a pro pointer II. It has the same 1-2" (perfect range IMO) of 360 detection as the original with faster on/off, better button, and no falsing.

I have a Makro pointer and Garrett Carrot the Makro kept falsing when turned upside down and turning itself on out of nowhere!!?? I used it like this for almost a year, i still liked it and got very good at using it... then decided to return it for a warranty repair. I didn't want to be without a pinpointer so i ordered the Propointer AT, it was supersensitive and i found it odd to use, no falsing whatsoever . I know i haven't used it very much and just have to get used to it, but i will put it on my shelf for a back up because i was sent a new Makro i know this pinpointer well and its not overly sensitive like my girlfriend!!!???:shock:

Thats exactly what I do with my TRX. Start off with full power checking the surface, pinpoint, dig, detune as needed, retrieve target, turn PP off and move on to the next target. Bang, bang, bang, that quick.
