I just can't believe how nice that is. My half was so worn it isn't readable, unless held in just the right light. What I wouldn't do to find something like that. Just amazing!

How one guy can hunt everywhere he goes, and find mind blowing find after another, only to out do that the next time out, again and again is truly a mystery but well done to say the least!! An amazing coin, it really should be slabbed and graded, but no way I would send it off. I would have to go to a show where they were graded on site and sit there and watch as they were in shock just like the rest of us!!

That is in remarkable shape for its age. I don't know if you will ever top that find. Now all you have to do is find that gold coin.

That coin is incredible!!:shock: Don't know how I missed it in the first go-around, but saw your link in the Silver Dollar Club thread!

its been a while now ....

has this been authenticated as a period 8 real yet ??

I never like doubting another persons finds but with something this significant you really need to have it autheticated. Based on his lack of response to earlier suggestions to have this done tells me that it is most likely a replica. I'd love to be proven wrong though. It sure is a beautiful coin.

no hating going on here Goes4ever , I think its a great find no matter what it turns out to be (real ,contemporary counterfeit or modern fake) . Just like to know exactly what you have is all . the weight is almost perfect but a good quality reproduction , fake or contemporary counterfeit would be to pass any kind of scrutinizing but there are aspects to the coin that say its not an authentic coin of that age and getting it looked at by a professional would put it to rest. I could send some pictures of it to a few people who would know the difference with your permission of course.

I apologize if you interpret my words as hating. That is not what I intended. I know the feeling of having doubts cast on an awesome find. Last year I dug a portion of an Atlanta Arsenal style CSA buckle and I had no doubt that it was genuine but multiple people commented that it was a replica. I didn't want to believe it and it made me mad that people were doubting it. Eventually I decided that I would send it off to an expert for authentication and it came back inconclusive - whatever that means. Bottom line for me was that I would rather have known for a fact that my find was the real deal rather than assume it was. Everyone is different and that might not be important to you. Either way, congrats on an awesome, once in a lifetime find.

I am really unsure why some people are so
Concerned whether some peoples finds are real or not. I just cannot understand. Maybe if it is a new member and they post something totally umbelievable?? But I myself have zero intentions of ever selling this coin so I am not worried about it one way or another. Now when I dug my 1916D merc I sent it in to be authenticated even though I will not sell it I wanted it slabbed. This coin will lay in a box till I am dead then my one and only son will get it
