Pinpointers

i have a 250 and after i bought my vibra probe my recovery time increased tremendously. my friend has been detecting for years and finally bought a probe and kicks himself for not buying one years sooner.

The probes save a lot of time especially in soils that tend to discolor the targets, particularly coins. Many times they match the soil, or are concealed in a small lump of clay. I almost never need my pinpointer at the beach, but in other compacted dirt areas, I wouldn't be without. Definitely a time saver.

I use a Vibra-Probe and my wife uses a Bullseye ... in playing around with both of them:

Vibra-Probe: waterproof, signals by vibration only, bulkier, seems to be more sturdy, once turned on you don't have to keep pushing a button

Bullseye: lighter, have to hold a switch when in use, signals by sound or vibration, picks up a target at not quiet twice the distance of a Vibra-Probe

speaking as folks very new to detecting, we find using a pin pointer to be extremely helpful ... as noted above, in soils that cause a coin to discolor they make finding one much easier

pin pointers

:?: why is it alot of the times I see Md videos, the guys aren't using pinpointers. How do they do that? I use the sunray x-1 and the vibraprobe and would be lost with out them. Not to mention having a bunch of scratched coins from the shovel without using them.

I don't use a pinpointer, as I don't really have a problem pinpointing targets. Still, there have been times when one would have come in handy.

In my case is a matter of limiting the amount of gear I carry with me when out in the field. I do have a new Automax, which I received with the purchase of a detector, but I haven't used it yet. It seems too bulky for my taste, but I may give it a try one of these days.

We'll I can say with certainty that the pinpointer (whatever brand) will save time and keep you from getting to close w/ pointed screwdrives, etc. You can also stick it into the mud or soft dirt to see how much deeper the object is. Yes, I can pinpoint good w/ my detector but the pinpointer is nice w/ you need it. I reccommend it to any newbee or pro.
