pinpointer advice

Because he doesn't know how to tune it properly!!!!
mine will detect from 1 - 1 1/2" when properly tuned.
problem is it needs tuned every time you turn it on.

OK, I'll bite, what is this proper way to tune the Fisher/BH? Turn it on, adjust til it just stops beeping. 1/2" range, tops. Micro-adjust til it's at the hairy edge of beeping (or falsing) and maybe get another 1/8".

Adjusting the interior pot only seems to affect the position that the external knob stops beeping, but has no affect on range.

Maybe you got a rare one with much better than typical range???

I just got a XPointer & it's amazing ! I tolerated a BH PP that pretty much was touch & buzz . This thing hits deep & buzzes louder the closer it gets to a target . Yes it works either vibrate/sound or vib. only . Only have a few hours on it & about to get shut down for the year , snows on the way this weekend .. so I'm getting out as often as I can . So far .. love it !
Thanks Bart ...

Tuning? I use a BH Pinpointer, because it was a gift. It works better than none at all and has saved me some digging when I use it as a probe, and shove it into the sod over an item that my detector found. If I'm lucky, it touches metal and beeps. I don't know about tuning it. Seems I have to almost touch the metal before it beeps, no matter where the knob is set. You work with what you've got.....

If you have the money or are willing to save up more money, SKIP the Fisher F Pointer. Recieved one Sat afternoon, by Sat night I'd ordered a Garrett. F Pointer "stock" 1/2" on a broad side .25, "modded", 1" . Coin edge detecting, you litterally have to touch your target.. Minlooker

For my first few couple of years detecting, I used this
http://www.harborfreight.com/metal-detector-97245.html

If you live by a local Harbor Freights, they even send out discount coupons through mail/magazines.
20% off AND a free gift per purchase. That makes it $14.40+tax + a free LED flashlight (or whatever other gift you choose) for the pinpointer.

Can't beat that unless you spend $50+ for the other pinpointers.

Of course, the Garrett pro pointer is better because it is 10x the price.
