I posted the following blurb in the lost and found section of CL and have gotten several inquiries/requests. Couple of the responses were in super sketchy hoods and others were too far to drive. I have responded asking if the property has any historical records or a particular lost item. Got 2 local yards to swing on tomorrow, so we shall see.

I am a metal detectorist and I would like to ask you to consider allowing me to detect on your property. You may have lost jewelry or other valuables that I may be able to help you find. You may want to recover historical items relevant to your home's history. I offer my time to help you achieve this. I am not a scam, I just love detecting on old properties.

Please contact me if you are interested.
Thanks.

Your mileage may vary, but I was surprised with the number of responses I got.

I think you may need someone to watch your six in the more questionable areas. Just so happens I know a guy. His business is called "Have 2X4 Will Travel. I think the company is located in Northern Michigan somewhere.:rofl2:

I might just need that someday. I'm not a small guy, 6'5" 225lbs who carries (CPL) most days. I got cornered last year in an area of Detroit that I should not of been in. I stuck out like a sore thumb and they were coming in at 12 3 6 and 9. Told them I was leaving and I did. Stupid move on my part but the spot was irresistible.

And I always thought Northern Michigan was on the other side of the bridge? HAHA!! You live in God's country for sure Hoser.

It is great up here but sadly I'm still considered a troll. as I live below the bridge.:rofl2: With your size and what you carry, maybe you should watch my six.:rofl2:

Give me a call Mark if need a wingman or two, I have a couple of hunting buddies as well and we've been talking about doing Detroit....southeast Michigan areas as well. Finishing this one up tomorrow with my friends, donating finds to local historical society. Its over near Manchester. https://themanchestermirror.com/202...-sutton-kolongowski-farmhouse-deconstruction/

That piece of property could have some promising finds considering its age. Any luck? Let us know.

tough hunt, previous owners filled most of the land around the house in in late 40s/50s. So far just some silver dimes, merc and rosies but did pull a Willaim E. Barton (1850-1881) crotal, running horse design.

WEB crotal with iron horse tack buckle, foot and 1/2 down, we're running deep programs and large detector heads, stuff is way down.

If you stood on the corner, when I left Detroit in '75, and acted like you were counting money, they would be sending your hat to the cemetery..
Today you wouldn't even have a hat to send. I do think that all stems from the 67-68 riots there.

I would agree with you, but guess what? It's worse now because there are fewer residents, more gangs and blighted neighborhoods. One F'd up Mayor after another saying "Come on down it's safe"

You have to aware of your surroundings. Crap I was out hunting a football field in Ferndale, was down digging a tone and an unleashed dog came up from behind me and chomped my left arm. Good thing I was wearing a heavy Carhartt jacket and plenty of clothes underneath. No damage to me but I instantly it smacked with my trowel. Yelped and ran away.

We should ALL go down there as a group. Safety in numbers and having firearms strapped to our sides wouldn't hurt either.
That's your military mind coming out, not worth it in most circumstances. Although I have permissions in Brush Park for an entire block owned by a customer of mine. It's fenced in and the houses have been raised, basements filled. Lets go.
