people who buy stuff and say they found it.

Hey if someone wants to buy their finds that o.k with me. This isnt a contest its a hobby. I just enjoy checking out all the cool stuff, I don't care were it comes from.

I buy peoples finds all the time. I have never said I FOUND them.

I setup at the flea market in the summer. if I think I can make a little money on something I will buy it. If its a precious metal, i buy it for my personal collection/investment.

Point I am trying to make...

We either need to be consistent in the rules , or not...but pick a road and stay in it.

I remember a guy who was accused of planting finds at a member hunt. It was never proven that he planted anything, but there was a post in here for days dragging his name through the mud, and it was allowed to stay up.

As stated, there needs to be consistency if we are going to say we have a rule against calling other members a liar or saying they didn't find something.

Is. My. Point.:D

I'm not sure where you are seeing people buy stuff or how you know they are buying stuff in the first place? Could you be more specific on what was bought and then posted as thier find. Unless its a high dollar coin it would be hard to really hard to tell. And what point would it serve.

"Sometimes I see where someone makes a post and it will say I found this, whatever it may be, and there is no pic. Then I'll see a comment on the thread, "no pic, it didn't happen".

That is coming from a small mind when someone makes that comment toward someone. The majority in this hobby won't be found guilty of making a comment about someone's finds like that. They are not wrong all the time mind you. Majority??? Yes.

Alot of times when "no pic, or it didnt happen" is used its sarcastic between a couple guys playin arround and they usually know eachother...just a lil funnin...

D

It was proven...

On another note, just look for the one post wonders. The person who posts the gold coin he found or the super key date silver and never posts again. They are proof of what the OP is talking about...

At my club they mentioned about some submissions that looked too clean and looked like theyd come from an antiques shop and not from the ground or sand or water.

They got made because some people could walk away with silver (prizes for the best finds) based on this obviously bought coin/relic.

I have old coins and pictires of gold on my site and have always been upfront on what I bought, received as presents etc and although I have pictures of something like 20 gold items I have never found so much as an ear ring stud since detecting.

I share my things as I collect, but I also share my finds which arnt worth much but I like them, my clad could go out and buy me a nice 1/10th gold coin and may well do that eventually but it still wouldn't be found money, just something I bought.

Cheaters are the lowest of the low and like cheating on an adventure game, they cant start being honest afterwards and drive themselves into an ever deeper hole.

I prefer to find little and stuff not valuable then say I found all these morgan dollars, peace dollars, 1 oz coins

Remember the one guy that was finding all this crazy finds and posting them.. come to find out he was ordering them on ebay. He gave someone his ebay name by accident and people had seen what he had purchased. Also a hunting buddy or member found the 2x2 cardboard holder with the name and dates of the coin he so called found. Next thing you know he deleted all his youtube videos... I think that guy passed away not to long after all this happened. Anyone remember who Im talking about? Was it The AT PRO guy or something like that?

I remember that. They really tarred and feathered him. It was disgusting how that all went down... I think he passed away shortly after :( :(

You would of thought that Texas had some Spanish coinage? Your day will come as sure as beans are beans! The only trouble now is that when you do post something good who is going to believe you? I am going to make a prophecy, you will find silver within a month!!:bling::money:

I am praying that you are correct! I hit a number of older parks almost everyday . I am coming up on my first 30 days of detecting in about a week. I try to get out for at least 2 hours every afternoon and both weekend days when possible. I am still learning and its a lot of fun just digging pennies still for me :) It s like Christmas morning every time I hear that high pitched sound in my headphones. You never know when it might finally be silver in the hole!

There was a nut job on another forum planting stuff. He also got a lot of grief for bragging he makes his wife work and he refuses to get a job.His job is making money off youtube now.You get a lot of subs some people abuse it.They have to perform.if someone never goes in a slump ever, you know something starts to stink!
By the way.I confess! I bought a bag of pulltabs and been adding them to my finds. Those crown tops get boring to look at after a while.

I hate to think the worst of people but am beginning to think this of a great many of the more popular members of my club. Just how many pristine Standing Libertys and Eagles can one person find when 95% of rest of group hunting same area is not finding coins that old. Makes me mad they win cash every time they do this.

Yes that is who Ozarks was talking about. Looking back at it, it was a bad way to go about it, but also he didnt handle it the right way either. Both sides were at fault. Shouldnt have been done in the first place but the public humiliation went too far and I was just as guilty as many many others on here...

But yes he bought many of his finds off of Ebay and claimed to have found them. When he was found out, he erased everything and ignored everyone. And yes he has since passed away...

Some people are inclined to misrepresent their finds or whatever anytime an opportunity arises to compete against others. I saw it when I was Geocaching and I'm sure it happens in metal detecting too.

"Marathon Man!"

It's like an old guy who was running the London Marathon! Half way round he gets a taxi and misses out about ten miles, then jumps out and runs to the finishing line! The only trouble was the second half of his marathon was a world record! He must have felt a plonker when he was caught out!!:oldguy::run1:

I don't think to many people buy finds but who knows. My only peeve that I see and don't like is when people find coins that obviously came from a beach and say they were found elsewhere such as a house or a field. We all know what beach silver looks like. I don't know why people make up stories of where they find stuff.
