One thing I really like to do is take and old fishing reel that for lack of better terms has been discarded as it won't work anymore. I pick them up at garage sales, junk stores, people who have them gathering dust on a shelf. Some are just not worth saving, but then there are the ones I see have hope to rise again and be put back to work. Plus I just think the old 40's-60's reels were just cool. Not as effective or efficient as todays reels, but neat to look at the details the manufacturers put in them. These are two I just resurrected from the scrap heap. The spin caster was almost locked up, and the anti reverse lever was broken off so I cannabled a reel that was beyond hope for the lever. The Pfluger level wind was hard to turn and the clicker button was froze. Overall finish was dull and on the corroded side so I polished it up a tad. It now runs smooth as silk. Like I said, it's just a fun hobby for me on rainy, snowy, nasty days.:waytogo: Reels1.jpgReels.jpgReels2.jpgReels3.jpgReels4.jpg

hoser, reading this reminded me that I'm a bit like of your old spin cast reels. I'm an old 60's cool reel:cool: yet. My girl still thinks I'm still "neat to look at" even though my "spin caster locks up" from time to time...:no:...,god is that embarrassing. Now, I don't mind having a busted "anti-reverse lever" now, comes in handy and I just roll with it, when detecting especially, back forth, right, left, I attack from all directions now and have been known now to fall backwards over myself, particularly in heavy brushy areas, so look out! :snowtruck:. Not even going to mention my "Pfluger level winder" but definitely my "clicker button" has frozen many times, particularly in hi stress situations such as checkout lines, using ATMs and certainly just trying to figure out my damn Iphone! Even through all this, though my looks may have "dulled" a bit with some "corrosion" certainly evident, I can still get the job done!:excited:

I like it. Makes me remember my days as a youth using a casting reel with heavy braided line, throwing hefty hook and weight and the inevitable birds nest to follow. No wonder my dad made us use bamboo poles most of the time

Thanks all. Yeah I remember those days of trying to cast big old bell sinker and not being quick enough to stop the oncoming birds nest.:jawdrop:As a kid my family would go to long piers and drop fish for Perch. No casting involved. Just let the line drop to the bottom and reel up a couple cramks off the bottom. With a level wind reel it was like a small winch.:rofl2: Oh, and that is back when the perch were big.

KT had a couple of those open cast reels as a kid growing up in the 1950s, hated those birds nests! Ha ha. Saved up money and bought a Zebco metal 33, still have it and several more that His Majesty picked up at yard sales and flea markets before they became collectors items! KT likes the chromed ones! :D
