Old spoons

I found this spoon and never cleaned. Today I had some time to go thru my finds. When I cleaned this spoon I can see hallmarks on it. It must have been plated. I’ve never seen hallmarks on a plated spoon. Does anyone know anything about these marks?

Can't help you but I have found quite a few with hallmarks like that.

Hallmarks on a non-silver spoon, that seems strange. Like you said it may have been heavy silver plate. Good going.

They did that to give the impression of a higher quality flatware.

Not sure what kind but it seems to be mid to late 1800s spoon!

It's called a fiddle spoon, about 1820 based on what I found online.

I agree with the plating. Only other way they would be typically hallmarked if solid silver or pewter.
