old half dime

randy is something like that really worth 1500 dollars as somebody mentioned? If so the scratch you put in it must kill you. It would kill me.

Still, it must be very valuable. I don't sell my coins but for one gold piece I found a few years ago. Still have every silver coin I've ever dug up. But 1500 is a lot of dough to have sitting around doing nothing. I'd be tempted to sell.

Anyway, great find. One of the best I've seen on this forum so far.

I don't believe it is worth $1500 dollars, but if someone gave me $1500, or even $1000, I'd take it. It does have scratches from long ago as well, so it is less of a big deal than you'd think, I guess.

Yes, the scratch kills me. I've scratched 2 other old coins when I was first starting out, but both were culls anyway. Since then, I've been very careful on deep silvers and coppers and have never scratched one since, but I've never found an old coin so shallow in a park that is hunted to death that sounds like a zincoln. Not only that, the ground was rock hard. Now I know. Live and learn.

2010 Blue Book

1800 Half Dime
AG-3 $150
G-4 $300
VG-8 $450
F-12 $700
VF-20 $1000
EF-40 $1500
AU-50 $3000
That coin is in EF-40 Condition. That is a value of $1500 I don't know how much the scratch will take off

Nice find! That's like finding a new metal detector, it being worth that much!

Randy do you think it would be worth getting the coin slabbed?I know you said it has some scratches. But it still looks in real good condition!,it may add more value if you ever decide to part with it.Just a thought and again great find.

Congrats on it being genuine. I can't imagine finding a coin that old in such amazing condition. That's the best or coolest find I've seen on these forums, period. My last favorite was an 1841 half dime, but this one just stomps all over it.

You boys up north are lucky. Here in Florida we don't have such a big colonial history and so rarely see such nice old US coins. I've never found a coin older than 1853 down here.

We do have pirate treasure and Spanish gold however. Not that I've ever found any.

Ahh the beautiful 1841....even though it's not mine I still love seeing that thing! Hey, it stomps all over my cruddy 1890 dime all day. Yours is in excellent shape, and it'd be my favorite coin too for sure. If you ever get tired of that 1841 half dime laying around feel free to send it my way.
