Old Copper Culture...Bucket lister. Triangulate spear point 6000-7000 years old

Incredible, I wonder if it's been laying there for 7000 years or did some kid lose it playing cowboys and indians.

It’s either just been laying there or was brought in from either fill or pushed around throughout the years. I can’t imagine all the possibilities but laying 12 inches deep surely don’t match up with it just being in that spot for that long. At some point it was moved.

I think so too! There's been many cases of it through history.

That's one fantastic find Mike! BIG Congrats!!

I would love to see what an estimated auction price would be.

Thanks a lot Ron and soooo true where people have been robbed of their finds so need to be careful in what I do.

I was wondering about whether is was brought in with fill or an ancient drop!?!

Any history on the location? Any other artifacts ever turn up near there?

Amazing find either way!! :wow::shock:

Ron, I’ve tried to pull up some history on that park, and still looking but the city it was found in has been known for other OCC items to come up from time to time. I still think it was probably brought in on fill or pushed around from possibly another area of the park as I do know that park has been moved around a bit. 10 inch clad dimes is not normal here without some moving of some kind.

Thanks Mike!

The spear point is spectacular. That would be a beyond bucket lister for me. As far as legality, the first thing you should have done was to say you found it in your yard. Maybe look up a non governmental professor or the like to see it. Congratulations on an unbelievable piece of history.

That’s an amazing find! I grew up on a farm in Northern WI and every year we would find Indian artifacts from the Copper Culture Indians. As much as I hated picking stones, the one thing I did look forward to is finding arrowheads, spearheads and all kinds of other things. Unfortunately we moved before I got into metal detecting but the farm is still in our family and I’m hoping to get up there next spring to do some dirt fishing.

Congratulations on an epic find and you could always loan it to the local history museum for one of their displays with a written agreement for it’s safe return back to you.
