I took a friend from work out to Brentwood Iron Furnace near Natural Bridge. I dont think this place has ever been hunted. We only had around 30 minutes before it got dark. He calls me over after digging for a minute and said, "Look a hammer" and throws it back down on the ground. I couldnt believe it. The iron furnace was in operation from 1856-64. Most of the iron produced from this furnace was shipped straight to Richmond to make cannonballs and cannons. So whatever this hammers purpose was, it played a role in the war. 150 year old hammer and throws it back down on the ground Theres going to be more stuff there, I'll make it back there one day.
In other news.... I stumbled upon some earthworks where 2 cannons were placed over the James river this week. Its also on private land. I found the owner and got my permission. The possible bad news, It may have been hit in the past. I just hope if it has been hit, it wasnt hard and with lesser technology. Going tomorrow! fingers are crossed.
