Hand pump troughs

My 2 cents.

I think they are maybe hand pump troughs. I have seen similar before.
I couldn't find any good pictures but something like this:

This may sound morbid but how about when they slaughter cows it was a way to collect the blood.. just taking a stab at it...

They are for drainage. My brother dug up four of them 5 yrs ago at his early 1900's home. they were all a few inches below the ground at each corner of the house (right below the downspouts.) His were the same length and width, but were hand carved out of about 3 or 4 inch thick slabs of slate!(the house is near an abandoned slate quarrey.) They were designed basically the same except on his, the narrow trough flowed into about a 12" in diameter circle (bowl) instead of a rectangular shape. He has sinced recently moved to another late 1800's home and took the unusual and extremely heavy objects with him! Hope this helps, let me know!

With those MSN pictuer accounts... I thin kyou hafta be logged in to view it, so though YOU can see it, we can't. Try uploading either as an attachment here, or putting it in an album hosted here, or use something like photobucket.com which gives you a handly weblink to the image.

Osm! Great job!

And it just furthers the idea of these being drainage things...

It could actually be a mold that was just coincidentally left by the downspout--it kind of looks like a mold for a thermometer...a big thermometer!:D

looks like thats what they are Thanks everyone for your help

But now that you know what they are, what are you going to do with them?

You must live in a huge house cause your drainage things are not small at all, they are huge!
